please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Decent selection of ales but cider was a let down. Why do pubs in Cornwall get Weston's when there is so many good local ciders.

Just returned from polperro, this pub was on our doorstep and was great. The staff were really friendly, and the food was homemade and very reasonable, tasted great. Our dog was made very welcome.Cannot fault this pub, very good selection of drinks. We visited this pub every evening of our holiday and would like to thank Jan and her team for making us very welcome.

actually pastyhunter..I come from looe
pastyfoundit - 21 Mar 2010 01:02
I can assure you that I have nothing to do with pubs other than enjoying a good pint. "just a jealous competitor" You need to get your own house in order first before accusing others Mrs Mill. Lovely the way you rate your own pub so highly yet put ALL the others down. And I hear it's up for sale - yet again.
ThePastyHunter - 15 Mar 2010 15:12
Pasty hunter is a jealous person who works for another pub and should get a life. This pub is excellent
pastyfoundit - 7 Mar 2010 00:35
Never had a good pint here unfortunately. Food is lacking and seems like microwaved frozen tat. As for the owner, really needs a personality implant. Shame as it could be a good pub.
ThePastyHunter - 15 Feb 2010 22:58
Friendly pub tucked away in picturesque Polperro. Does a beer festival every year and the one at the beginning of October was excellent. There were 30 ales available at just 1 per half via a token system. I tried a dozen (halves) and they were all in good condition. Well done Jan and the team.

My wife and I were staying close by (june 2009) and had heard that there was a pub quiz here on Tuesdays. So we went there on Tuesdays....and almost every other day too!

Great quiz....good beer and wine....and astonishingly cheap menu where several main courses were priced at 2.50p each!!! No, that is not a misprint....and for the cynics, we tried two of them out. They were large portions and very well prepared and presented.

A very good pub and a high-point of our week.

Only comment....for heaven's sake guys, tidy the garden up. A real mess, frankly, when it could and should be a real feature.....and costs you a point here.

But other than that.....very good, friendly. Oh, and you can get on the internet there too.

Thumbs up!

David and Jan, Southampton.

PS - the cat traumatised our dog!!

Not sure how these guys do it, but they do it. Fantastic range of beers at prices that take me back to the eighties. And the food,!!....When I saw the prices I wasn't expecting much before our meals were served, and have to say I was certainly caught off guard when they were. Substantial sizes and clearly freshly cooked to order which is amazing considering the more than reasonable prices. Enjoyed all the establishments we got to visit this time round, but this one is a little gem once you find it.
Thirsty247 - 6 Jun 2009 18:19
Not sure if I have just been in on "off days" but I'm not impressed with this pub. The ales were not in good condition (cloudy), the food was decidedly average, seemed to be more staff than locals (not that there was that many staff) and you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. Not the Old Mill that I remember.
pasty_hunter - 16 May 2009 15:26
on holiday called in loved it loved the beers and staff were great, what a gem will be back
roblord - 10 May 2009 21:24
what a hidden gem! this place may be hard to find, but once you get there you'll never want to leave... fantastic beers, in fact probably the largest selection of alchoholic drinks I have ever seen in a pub this size! four stars!!!!
voddy - 19 Apr 2009 19:11
I love this place! great atmosphere, and the best out of all the pubs tried in Polperro. An excellent, well-kept range of real ales, along with friendly staff and a beautiful cat called euston! most recommended.
driptrays - 19 Apr 2009 18:59
FANTASTIC BEERS, FANTASTIC FOOD, FANTASTIC PEOPLE, IN FACT SIMPLY FANTAAAAASSTIC!!!
pubilicious - 18 Apr 2009 11:46
This is a nice little boozer, a bit too modern for my tastes, but very friendly, homely and good ale.

Cat + Wifi is a bonus too.
man_versus_horse - 14 Feb 2009 15:23
just got back from long weekend in polperro, and my mates and i all agree that the old mill house was the best pub in the village. friendly staff, great food, well kept real ales, and the best value for money anywhere!
the 2 course sunday roast lunch (for only 5.95) was TERRIFIC!
We look forward to our return.
THE STAFF, ALE, & FOOD ARE ALL GREAT!
norfolkmarshman - 5 Nov 2008 12:53
Had great weekend for the fireworks, I loved the ciders my bloke loved the skinners. Nice pub, friendly bar staff and good vibes.

I Feel i have to put some things into perspective here. Like all businesses, pubs have good days and sometimes they have bad days. I have worked in the trade for many years, and site like this are a constant pain in the backside. The problem is, as you can't please all the people all of the time, some will be disappointed. These are the ones who will generally comment quicker on a forum than someone who has a good experience. It would be far better if those persons would actually speak up AT THE TIME and tell the staff/managers what the problem is, so they can be given the opportunity to sort it. To complain afterwards (esp. anonymously) is just weak. Come on people, use your voices - we don't bite!!
njj1978 - 25 Oct 2008 22:13
Nothing wrong with the cat! New owners since my last visit, now no longer stocks draught Erdinger. However, well kept real ales are plentiful. Charming and friendly, possibly having one of the country's most expensive internet rooms!
nigelrowe - 9 Oct 2008 15:23
We stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely time! The room was very clean and cosy! all the girls behind the bar were very welcoming and made us feel at home from the moment we got there. Spent a lovely evening in the beer garden under the heater chatting to the landlady and her daughter who were really nice people! Was a good atmosphere and had good live music. beer was good and not expensive! definatly the best pub in Polperro! Well be back next year!

p.s I didn't see one cat!

ChrisOmi - 30 Sep 2008 15:06
Called in last week whilst walking in the area. Update my previous comment to massive improvment. good pub grub and looking very tidy, new smoke shelter is ideal for us outcasts.
Cleggy - 26 Sep 2008 13:38
Just had 4 nights here. supposed to have had a recent revamp, painter must have been blind. More cat hairs on carpets than wool. Breakfast was fine. except cats in restaurant(converted lean to) avoid if possible.
chrisJG - 16 Sep 2008 20:57
What a fantastic friendly pub. They do really good meals for adults and kids at only 6.95 including a drink. The staff and management were really friendly and made our stay very welcoming. Alan really enjoyed his birthday in your pub especially the scrumpy. The have a lovely beer garden which you can enjoy in the glorious sunshine. Pets are welcome. Good bar prices aswell. Hope to see you all in 2009 from the Geordies.(Blaydon)

jono194 - 14 Jul 2008 21:56
went in here last week. Lovely pint, didnt try the food but will do next time we are down as it looked great and good value for money. Unusual to find meals at this price in a tourist hot spot. Seek it out you wont be disapointed.
suetpudding - 13 Jul 2008 21:47
Fantastic service, lovely food, very genorous portions at reasonable prices. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.
beerslops - 12 Jul 2008 15:56
A hidden gem. Friendly bar staff, fair few selection of beverages, Curry and a Pint 5.95 or Steak and a Pint 6.95 all that really needs to be said, the food was nice. The quiz night was fun, although hard, coming second from last i believe, also went in there to start off and end off my 18th B'day pub crawl.
Went there 5/6 times in one week!
Verge off the track to find this quaint little pub and you wont be disappointed!
Darlo_90 - 12 Jul 2008 14:57
4 Real Ales available. Personal favourite was Old Millhouse. Large Beer Garden which is great on a sunny day.
Noddy80 - 11 Jul 2008 12:01
This is a good village pub. Has good selection of ales and ciders. Pity I couldnt sample more
stevebrown - 28 Jun 2008 10:49
Nice beers, nice pub, unfortunatley not nice atmosphere.
liverpoolou - 25 Jun 2008 22:10
Nice pub, dificult to find as tucked away up a back street. Don' think they do food anymore though, at least not when we were last visiting. Good choice whatever your tipple
bettystoggs - 15 Jun 2008 10:43
Call in when we are in Polperro as this pub has a decent sized beer garden by a stram.
Sadly found it looking a bit shabby and neglected this time round. Inside is fine though and serve a lovely pint.

terrible beer was awful

Tinaloise - you were a busy person that day of the 14th april weren't you? you commented on 6 pubs in Looe, 5 in polperro and 6 at Hebden Bridge. Did you visit them all in one day? you must tell me the secret!!
Love this pub and have used it for many years, great prices and many old friends.
njj1978 - 29 May 2008 20:52
totally disagree with previous comments about this pub. I have visited the Millhouse several times and have always found the staff to be friendly, and the beer and food is great. Although it is off the beaten track, and therefore not easily found, once you find it, it is always worth a repeat visit! Great all round pub.
beerslops - 28 May 2008 11:44
DID NOT ENJOY THIS PLACE. THE STAFF NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL. COULD NOT BOTHER TO EVEN SAY HELLO TO US.DID NOT GO BACK
tinaloise - 26 May 2008 16:49
Completely agree with meggymoon. Good beer but very unfriendly atmosphere indeed. We went in on the quiz night, The question sheets were handed out all aorund us and we were not asked if we wanted to join in. Bar staff were verging on hostile. We wouldnt go in again. Think they need a sign saying NO TOURISTS! Fair enough if they want to keep it local.
hellsbelles - 14 Apr 2008 22:13
Just returned home from an Easter break in Polperro. Visited all the pubs in the village and found this to be the most "clicky!" and unfriendly pub in the whole of Polperro. Surly bar staff and cats wondering over serving areas. Landlady didnt even bother to welcome us to pub, didnt even acknowledge us!
Whatever you do - dont go over your time limit on the 1 per 15 mins internet limit as you will be in trouble!
meggymoon77 - 1 Apr 2008 23:01
Nice enough pub but always feel that the landlady resents holidaymakers frequenting any other pub in Polperrro but her own!
alemart - 31 Mar 2008 21:10
Came to Polerro in june for a week and visited the old mill house. Nice pub and beer, although Land Lady rude. whilst we were there she talked very loud, mostly negetively about people which is'nt very professional. nice garden out the back, but take your own poo bag! other staff friendly and good potential there,if the pub gets taken over by new management.
unnonomous - 23 Mar 2008 12:06
Good accommodation with hearty breakfast.Friendly atmosphere and huge log fire.I'll be back!
glubglub - 19 Mar 2008 14:59
Smashing public House great beer & always a welcoming fire & local cheer.A pint of mill cheers any time. The food is great - Iam going to opt for some P.V.S soon. Great venue for weddings too (I speak from personal experience)
maxine1 - 4 Jan 2008 15:34
Had two meals in there Whitsun week and it was very very good.
The beer is also kept really well, and Tuesdays quiz is great - you even get clues from the quizmaster if he likes you!!!.

My favourite pub of my week in Polperro.

255marathonman - 3 Jun 2007 18:37
Our second favourite pub in Polperro (only because it is not as "olde worlde" as The Blue Peter and does not have the views of the harbour.

Staff and locals are very friendly and on our visits this year have had more choice of beers than the Blue Peter (but 2 of these visits were in Feb & Oct).

Good clean accommodation and very good breakfasts.

Can thoroughly recommend this pub if visiting Polperro.
crosswordqueen - 30 Oct 2006 11:14
In the summer the garden is packed and in the winter the locals keep the beer and jokes flowing. Very pleasant night or day.

londinieres - 22 Jun 2006 17:44
Not friendly and full of children with thier children. Beer was average
old_speckled - 23 Apr 2006 18:24
A really nice pub. The staff were friendly , they let me take my dog in, and the sunday carvery is fantastic !!
Sifu - 19 Nov 2005 15:14
A year since my last visit, but still great. It does lack a little in atmosphere though, probably because on my two visits it was almost empty. Erdinger is quite rare, a pretty good beer (and I'm a CAMRA member!!)
nigelrowe - 19 Sep 2005 14:57
GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE PILCHARDS BLUE PETER OR SHIP
BEERBLUES - 19 Jul 2005 10:42
This is my favourite pub in the village. There is always a big selection of local beer (especially at the beer festival held here) and a good choice of lager.
It is such a clean well presented pub with many local characters who prop the bar up.-That's probably because the Landlord & Lady are so friendly.
The 'Sunday Carvery' should not be missed it's absolutely gorgeous, followed by brilliant Live music in the evening.
There is a pool table and also a lovely beer garden out the back which overlooks the river. 10/10

What a treasure. Polperro is well worth a holiday, just to enjoy the pubs! Well kept Skinners and Sharp's beers (the range varies)and such a friendly landlady make this a must. Really excellent food is served as well. A gem, hidden down a dark alley. Search it out.
