Very pleasant looking pub both inside and out in suburban rural location. Decent clientele. Large lawned beer garden to front, cricket green to the left. Last visit 4 pumps serving Vale Brill, Rebellion, one other I can't remember the name of and the dreaded doom bar (c/o Coors mega brewery Tadcaster). Small selection of bottled UK and foreign beers.

The Case is Altered is also an excellent early comedy by Ben Jonson. First published in 1609, the play presents a range of problems for scholars attempting to understand its place in Jonson's canon of works. Maybe he had just read it and got confused.

Apart from this one and the one mentioned in the previous post, there is also the one mentioned in Harrow Weald (Old Redding and also one in Wealdstone. The name is a corruption of "Casa Alter" or "Old House" which is Spanish, although why pubs were named in Spanish in the first place beats me. Any ideas?

Blue Scrumpy has indeed got the wrong pub, but it's an understandable mistake: from his description he went to The Case Is Altered in Harrow Weald. Not far away, and how many pubs of this name are there?

Lovely pub with a lovely garden.
There were 4 ales on today, and at £3.35 a pint, a lot cheaper than my locals on Harrow on the Hill.
I was here last August, and there were also 4 ales on then, so like BeerGutt, I think that blue scrumpy has got the wrong pub. None of the awful beers/lagers that he mentions were on sale here when I was visiting, and the pub is exactly what a country pub should be, and nothing like an Indian restaurant.

A surprising find in deepest suburbia... A charming country pub overlooking a cricket pitch. Five real ales, and two meals for £12 on weekdays. Warming log fire. A cosy rustic barn extension provides extra seating.

Is blue scrumpy talking about the same pub???

I went here recently and have nothing but praise. There was about 4 ales on. Admitedly they were mostly the usual suspects (Doombar etc) however they did have Green King IPA Reserve which at 5.5% went down faster than a whores knickers!

Good atmosphere, lovely garden and nice views over the cricket square. This is a little slice of the country in Suburbia. Definitely the best pub in the area closely followed by the Black Horse.

I first tried visiting this pub a couple of years back. But it was closed at the time, which was particularly frustrating given I'd got there by public transport. It's nicely located and I was pleased to see it was back open. However, it appears that it has been completely spoilt. I'm not sure whether the owners intend this to be a bar or an Indian restaurant. The 8 handpulls all looked a little under-utilised with a Ruddles Best clip turned round, leaving keg Fosters, John Smiths, Strongbow, Becks Vier & Cobra. We tried the food, which was ok, but nothing special. Seems to have gone downhill badly.

Had a pint of Greene King Celebration Ale, which at 3.25 a pint, wasn't bad. Garden was very pleasant, but also very packed........at 3:00 on a Thursday afternoon, this kind of makes a mockery of people claiming poverty in this day and age.

Only ever been there for lunch, for which it's ideal. Great garden, friendly staff, Doom Bar and well priced food. Pretty good all round

Lovely little pub in a nice setting, but the bar is so small its difficult to get served at busy times. I always feel like the locals resent non regulars using their pub though, which is a shame.

Lovely pub with garden in an outstangly beautiful location. The ales are served too cold, seems like they have been through the lager chiller.

Semi-rural pub with a popular and large seating area at the front. The bar areas have stone floors and exposed beams. No TVs were on and no music was being played. Beers served were Youngs Special, Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen and Sharps Doom Bar. The Morland Original was off. A nice spot to catch a bit of sun. But nothing really stood out to encourage me to pay a return visit.

The owners claim to have refurbished this pub
The work appears to consist of having installed two large television screens, one in the bar and one in the eating area, which prevent any chance of a quiet evening's conversation with friends and family.
The seating is old, uncomfortable and badly arranged. The food portions are small and overpriced.
This is not a pub I would recommend it if you like to get away from the television and have a comfortable evening out!

I really look forward to summer and spending lazy days here! This pub always has a good range of beers, wines and spirits. It does food (BBQ in summer) which is on the pricey side but that's because it is decent home-cooked stuff ... the kind of pub you can take your parents to for a proper roast. It's neither too chavvy nor too pretentious and it has lots of historic charm.

The garden is large and has plenty of tables. In summer people also take their beer to watch the cricken on the adjoining green. It still gets very crowded though! I've actually be disappointed and had to wait for a table or get one with wasps around, which is the major downside.

I would recommend this place for a nice relaxed afternoon or evening.

A proper, old fashioned pub.

Can't fault the look of the place...though it's attitude to kids is neanderthal.
Alehound - 14 Jul 2007 20:41
What a fantastic setting. What a garden. What potential. Get some decent beers in, a restaurant table you can book and some staff who care and you will be there. Drainage aint your only problem.

excellent pub with super beer and food
weston - 23 Apr 2007 12:28
They have had drainage put in under the lawn so that it can be used after its been raining. Before it was very often not possible to sit out at the tables as the ground was too wet.

Certainly the only pub in Eastcote, bar the Woodman, thats worth a visit. Avoid the Manor. Historic interior has a Camra award. A bit hit and miss with the friendliness sometimes, but a pleasant place to sit out in the summer. Usually a half decent selection of beer.

Good beer and friendly service; a real gem and the only pub in eastcote worth visiting

could not get in as i was in an electric wheelchair, two years after the DDA act and they are breaking the law.

Oh this place has gone downhill. Where is the lovely blonde manageress. Nothing was any trouble for her and always service with a smile.

We visited this pub at the weekend and were very impressed with the food. We both had steak and it was the best I had tasted in along time. The staff were very friendly. Its a small pub but has a nice atmosphere and a garden outside. I will definatly visit again.
kerrya - 20 Mar 2006 10:50
A very nice garden for pleasant days and a 17th c. interior for dining. Very friendly staff, good food and reasonable lunch specials. Real ale is usually Young's Special or Greene King IPA.
Real_Al - 25 Aug 2005 09:46
Nice pub. I prefered it before they made the beer garden smaller. Nice place to go on a summer's evening.
edrok666 - 21 Aug 2005 15:04
