Visited last night specifically to try the food as had received good reviews from two separate sets of friends. A roomy pub, is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside with a nice conservatory area for dining.

There were four different bitters on – tried a pint of Guzzler from the York Brewery which was great. Food choice is pretty good; covers all of the bases and seems like hearty pub grub. We opted for the Steak and Guinness pie which is proper shortcrust pastry rather than a naff puff pastry topping that so many pubs offer these days.

The pie was excellent and came with chips, broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Big portion sizes, in fact the plate was a tad too small to fit everything on so if I had one gripe it would be to increase the size of the dinner plates!

Didn’t try dessert as was too full but the selection looked good and was very reasonably priced. Friendly bar staff and food orders taken at the table - another pub to add to our list and we will certainly be revisiting again in the near future.

We nipped in for lunch a few weeks ago after hearing good reviews. The food was superb and with generous portions. Although a G-King pub there was a nice selection of beers, which were well kept.

Friendly and helpful landlord too

Well I did return and thoroughly agree with the previous reviewer. Better selection of beer than last time - Everards Tiger was very palatable. Will have to go again as there are another four or five ales to try.

This formerly mediocre pub has new managers and is now really good. The service is excellent, nothing is too much trouble, and the food is absolutely to die for. Specials every day, Sunday lunches, a very comprehensive daily menu, and not expensive. Booking is advisable, since the popularity has risen as its reputation gains momentum.

This is one of those that I've passed by a thousand times and finally tried and wish I'de tried sooner. The beers are mainly Greene King which are not my favourites but the Morland bitter was very palatable. The menu is fairly bog standard but the quality is good and the portions are hearty. Will definitely return.

Dont you just love bar staff who ignore you to serve their friends, take their food orders and then tell you they are too busy to take your order and wait at the table for 10 or 15 minutes. Guess what we left and went to the Anchor which was brilliant.

Friendly staff, reasonably good food which arrived quickly, nice garden.

Recommended for small families as it has a (very small) fenced play area.

nice garden, lovely village, friendly bar staff but that's where the good stuff ends.
Food was ropey deep fry roast potatoes, cold roasted meats and cold gravy (yuk)
The person that serves on the carvery is with out doubt the rudest miserable sack of s***e ever (why do a job when you quite clearly hate it?). He was annoyed that we help ourselves to vegetables even though the bar staff said to. He then got grumpy that my daughter had a big plate even though she only took a small childs portion. He went on to make comments about annoying people helping themselves, he's lucky I didn't throw the plate back in his face. It's typical british service happy to take the 54quid for lunch and then treat you like dirt. We wont be going there again, it's shame a rude annoying person can ruin a good pub. I'll be writing to the brewery about him as well.

Good freindly pub serving good value for money food in a pleasant envioronment. Great place to take the kids or at the weekend. Can get a bit busy but lots of room outside. Wed nights good for quiz but again gets busy so if you want a table get in early - good prizes and couldn't beleive that they actually encourage you to bring books with you to look the answers up in!!! doubt you'l be dissapointed as long as your not after restraunt food or a night club style environment this is definatley more the family/all ages type of pub.
