Mmmmm ....how things change, they still have superb staff on the bar, interesting and regularly changing menus that appear to suit most tastes and pockets, some of the best kept beer to be found locally (prices start at £1.99 a pint for IPA) and a lovely garden with decent furniture (needs its grass cut though)
However, though we think their Grill Night is very good, their Curry Night is in need of some serious attention - starting with the recipes ! It was sharp in flavour - almost bitter. They also had no mango chutney !
Perhaps, just perhaps, curry on their menu is a step too far and should be left to those who understand spice mixes and accompanying chutneys.
Put another way, are curry dishes at this level 'ambition beyond capability' for a chef who may not be fully trained in the fine balances that exist in the mixing of herbs and spices ?
We will continue to go to the Gurkha restaurant for such dishes until someone puts up another review to the contrary. 5/10

Firtst impression not good. All the menus were covered in food. Ordered a steak. Rare. Came up well done. Ordered another steak.Rare. Came up medium. All other food could have come from Brakes Brothers value section. Unimpressive. Maybe they should employ some cleaners, and also train the staff in the kitchen. Beer was OK - and that was the only good thing I could say.

Always liked the North star pub food is standard fair but decent enough , good beers and has staropramen on tap which is a bonus - would have been my local when i lived in Worthing.

Under new management for a while now, safe to say past problems have completely gone. On Sunday 1st Oct, what a seroiusly fine (few) pints of Youngs was I privilaged to taste at a reasonable price! It was also noticeable that the food trade was exceptionally busy compared to past times and the custom base was fairly spread in age group. Well done, I suspect it was a long haul back from past standards ! 9/10

Whatever the faults mentioned in previous reviews, this pub is at least clean and I've never heard bad language in the bar or garden because they don't cater for the 'trash' whether it be local or tourist -unlike many others in the area.
This pub and the Sussex Yeomens may specialise in 'fling-and-bring' food and the beer can be a bit 'iffy' but they are well run by people who set acceptable standards of behaviour - the reason why they are both busy!! 7/10

I must agree with the previous posters. Honestly. the food is plastic crap! Please , until people in this country make a stand against places like this that are run by accountants and not by chefs we will be forced to endure some of the worst food in Europe. England awake! (Well, moan about rubbish food at least)

Had a drink one evening here recently, a pub that can't keep Harvy's ordinary bitter in a reasonable condition is not a pub ! Looking at some of the previous comments, not worth the risk of being disappointed with the food (again) either. This is a pity because nearby Ember Inns are first class. To the tourist, avoid, continue along the 2032 westwards and you will come to the Yeoman, much better.

The beer is okay, prices are about right but the food tastes like re-constituted XXXXXXXXX! A good pub being messed up by purely profit orintated big business and poor management. Also, the grass badly needed cutting on my visit.

Very good surroundings and reasonable prices but having taken my wife there for a meal on her birthday, never again!

We made the mistake of choosing this pub (our first visit) on Monday lunchtime for what we hoped would be a pleasant family meal to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We had with us my grandson who is a year old. We entered the pub at the side entrance from the car park. There are no signs at this entrance from here that children under 14 are not welcome. My daughter went to find a seat with her son and was approached by a bar attendant/manager who curtly said "no children allowed in this pub" and simply turned around and marched off as she was trying to ask him to inform the rest of us, who had gone to the bar to order drinks to stop us from doing so. He ignored her and just returned to the bar leaving her to rapidly gather everything together including my grandson and chase after us to stop us buying drinks. This man had a generally unpleasant manner, was surly and ignorant. We can have no complaint about the "house rule" regarding children but the aggressive way we were informed was simply rude and unecessary. Fortunately, this cloud had a silver lining! Searching for somewhere else to go we found ourselves at "The Farmhouse" just down the road. We were warmly welcomed, sat outside on a pleasant terrace, excellent food and the staff and service both superb.

When I come back to see my parents I have to pop into my local [which is this one], I come here with my mates and catch up on what's been happning. It's really good because it feels like your in a pub in town but your not! you can still chat and you can hear what they say and hear really cool tunes too!! I recommend this pub for the youngsters or the people that still act young inside [like me!]!! Not for the grumpy people, this pub is for happy chatty people who what to chat with there mates and get really drunk and if you boring and want to sit quitely in a pub go to the Lamb up the road!
