This place is now called the Old Brewery. In between times, it has also been a Slug & Lettuce. It certainly has a chain pub feel to it. Although now it seems to focus on being a place to go to watch sports. There are multiple TVs, including one row of tables with a TV at each. A pre-season friendly between two European teams was being shown. Ales were not too inspiring - Fuller's London Pride, Sharp's Doom Bar & Rebellion IPA. I went for a keg cider. At £4.80 a pint, I wish I hadn't.

Nice food and decent service. They advertised a beer festival of sorts but actually turns out they have 1 guest beer from a portfolio of 10 they are allowed! On a Saturday afternoon this is a screaming kid infested one-pinter of a pub.

Just a slug and lettuce with the usual horrible design and decor that entails - used to be much better as the Hogshead

The Slug & Lettuce aka The Hogshead, was on a works do and I was with a younger crowd (some were half my age) and so we went here, I did my best to persuade people to go to The Bounty in Bourne End but I failed. But wait a minute there's 2 handpumps with London Pride actually rather well kept, I was happy.

It's now a slug and lettuce. It's better than the last refurb they did and have tried to go upmarket, but it's not a patch on the original Hogshead when it first opened.

Service is pretty poor and bar staff are quite rude. It's typical of chain pub where profits come before customer service.

The Slug and Lettuce opened on 25/01/07. Having gone in there at the weekend I was very impressed. It is non smoking which is very pleasant, very classy and well done out. I didn't eat but the food but it looked like good Slug fare and the choice of lagers is second to none. Peroni, Becks, 3 strengths of Stella (one is over 6%, could be dangerous in the wrong hands!), and even a strawberry lager on tap Only London Pride on the ale front though but there was a spare pump so that might change.

Rumours are true, the Hogs is becoming a Slug and Lettuce. A shame in my opinion as I liked the football and the prices and choice of ales was good, the Slugs are nice with good food but only have a small choice of beers.

If the rumour below is true then I'm not surprised, the pub is looking tired and a more upmarket bar would probably suit Marlow more than the current format. It's a shame they don't change it back into a real ale pub like it was when it first opened and when it was far more popular than it is now.

news is that it is going to change to a Slug and Lettuce, therefor getting rid of live sports events which i find to be a disgrace as there are no live sports venues left in Marlow. something has to be done

Not sure how this is the best pub in Marlow.. It may have been when it first opened 10 years ago but no longer I'm afraid, unless you like the music so loud you have to shout to make yourself heard above it. I went in a couple of weeks ago and there was a very odd atmosphere.

I admit there are not many decent pubs in Marlow, and there has been an improvement since a couple of years ago, but it needs a bit of refurb as it's looking slightly tatty (esp. the toilets).

The quality of the beer is not that good either, it's best to stick to the lager.

Stubbled upon this website so just thought i'd check out the local pubs. Just wanted to say that the Hogshead is most definately the best pub in Marlow. Some of the comments here are so out of date that the Landlady has actually changed since the postings in 2004. DJ's Friday and Saturday night, Bands once a month or so. Easily the best Bar staff in Marlow, and an excellent food menu. If you want to watch football best to watch it in the Hogs. Overall an awesome pub.

Cracking pub, great for viewing the football, cheap well turned out beer and at the moment the best staff in Marlow. Fair enough it is not to everyone's taste and perhaps not somewhere you would gofor a quiet pint but I would recommend this place highly.

Came here with a group of friends for the first time last month, and had a great night out! Great live music, and beer was good.

I am afraid I have to agree with the other comments on here. This used to be a lovely pub a couple of years ago where you could go for a decent chat but now seems to be taken over at weekends by teenagers who just want to get drunk and music so loud you cant talk over. The landlady is also very unfriendly.
