This is a nice little pub with good, friendly clientèle and some nice beers. The bar staff are friendly and the facilities are excellent. Go on, treat yourselves to a night out here...

Having read the post by claphambarman, the phrase 'people in glass houses' rings aloud. Shame. While I would agree that portions may be small for the price-16 for ribeye beef roast. It is ribeye and the quality was excellent. We came without a booking, the staff were exceptionally helpful- even ringing a late customer who had reserved a table, to see if we could take it. The only negative in my book was that the barmaid was on her own and swamped with having to serve drinks for the numerous foodies and cover anyone at the bar. Must have been about 50 people seated. Come on guys rota on some help you can afford it. The Harveys was exceptional and many thanks to the very helpful maitre'd

Was always a good local pub with good food. The dining room has been revamped very recently and looks and feels much better. The food is really excellent and reasonably priced. Good draught beer in the bar. Nice friendly staff. I've had two evening meals there in the last three weeks, each time with guests and we all agree, we have to go back soon.
Cheers.

Its such a shame. Not this pub, but the way once apon a time the bar managers in Clapham Old Town used to look out for one another and even though they were in direct competition with each other, would still offer a hand or barrell if needed. Not anymore, its quite sad that certain old town bar managers have to use this page as a way of spreading lies about this pub in order to send more customers his way.

I've grown up coming to this place, and through the years like all places its had its ups and downs. What makes this place is the great character and amosphere, and the food has been outstanding.

Unfortuantly what should be an informative page for proper customers is now riddled by bitter bar managers who have lowered themselves to such grubby tactics.

You know who you are.

Went there because i heard the food was really good, i had the special which was Pork belly with shallots , it was absolutely fantastic. The waitress was very bubbly and cheerfull. I thanked the Scottish chef who was really friendly and he told me about some of the other things on the menu, which sounded fab. We will definately be frequenting the Tim Bobbin.

What a cute hidden gem! The Tim Bobbin is such a wonderful cozy pub tucked away in Clapham Common. Good staff, even the chef is good for a laugh and the food is more than you could ever expect coming out of a pub. I'd even recommend the spot for a nice night out for a proper meal. It has a nice back garden as well.

I used to really like the Tim Bobbins. Had a few delicious roasts there on a Sunday.

So yesterday went there yesterday for a mates birthday...because I had recommended it.

I ordered the chicken roast. When it arrived....very sqiftly....there was hardly any chicken, two tiny burnt potatoes, 1 very burnt yorkshire pud, two pieces of vegetables... I was so annoyed and dissapointed as I was hungry and the servings used to be more generous than that. Anyway... it gets worse. I finally managed to get a piece of chicken off of the bone (the meat wasn't falling off the bone) and it was very pink and bloody! I took it back and asked for another one.

Waited for 30 mins.

Got the second plate. Mates told me to check the chicken first. Cut into it blood came squirting out of it!!!!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes.

Of course the waitress / waiter's we're really nice and apologetic. I got my money back and starved....and didn't want to eat anything from there. Other people had ordered burgers, fish and chips and they were also dissapointed as the chips were burnt. Just wasn't that great.

The waitress offered to give me a glass of wine for free...which I took.

I will NEVER EVER be eating here again.

They need to sack the chef....and sort it out otherwise they are quickly going to lose custom.

Dreadful food, dreadful attitude and a dreadful experience. Here's why...

On Sunday afternoon I went to this pub in a party of 5, one of which was a local bar manager who recommends this place to others. We ordered 5 roast beefs from the menu (which said roast potatoes and vegetables) and what came on my plate were 2 small pieces of beef, one french bean, a quarter of a carrot, one minute piece of broccoli and 3 tiny new potatoes - that had been fried, all covered in gravy with one yorkshire pudding. The other plates were very similar. We asked for more veg and potatoes and were told no problem, so we started. The beef was very stringy and quite frankly not nice - it looked like pork. The waitress then came back and told us that we could not have any more!
We were annoyed because the total amount of vegetables on all 5 plates wouldn't have been adequate for just one person let alone 5.

One look around the pub confirmed that we were not the only ones with a problem, everyone with a plate in front of them looked disappointed.

So we decided to complain. We asked the manageress what was going on, why our meal portions were terrible and what was she going to do about it. The answer was laughable. We were told with a smile that "people had complained about too much food", "that you know how it is, sometimes you get loads and sometimes you get hardly anything", and that there was no way she would take any money off our bill - completely insulting and of course complete rubbish.

We decided to leave, paid up and left. When we paid, we saw that the menu said the roast was 11.95 and yet we were charged 12.95! "Why?" we asked - the answer was "because we haven't changed the tills yet". You couldn't make it up. I wonder how long they have been trying that one on for...

I walked into the Tim Bobbin hungry and I left starving.
We decided to go up the road and walked in to the Rose and Crown where to my surprise (well, not really) we found others who had all been 'eating' at the Tim Bobbin an hour or so beforehand and were now having to eat again to fill themselves up! There were loads of us!! All of whom had been ripped off by the Tim Bobbin. Some people had ordered very expensive wine there and this was the way they were treated - they were eating burgers at the Rose.

And, finally, to add complete insult to injury, 2 of our party have been ill today, Monday, and have been off work - why?? Could it be the beef? Almost certainly.

Do yourself a favour and never ever walk into this pub - you have been warned. And will we ever recommend this place to anyone again in Clapham?
No chance.

What has happened at the Bobbin, Sunday Roasts used to be excellent, went there yesterday, for 12 my roast consisted of 2 bits of "beef" 3 potatoes (not even roast potatoes) 3 beans and one piece of carrot with a yorkshire pud. When we complained they said that they has no more food and also wouldn't give us a refund. There were 3 of us, but others outside were most unimpressed. We left and went to another pub and had another meal as we were all still starving....

A lovely pub, good service, nice Guinness and away from all the trendy people who are all in The Sun.

Live just round the corner and the Bobbin is a great boozer for a quiet evening pint with friends. Totally agree about it being a proper pub in a sea of identikit establishments.

Sunday lunch normally pretty good, hearty helpings of roast meat but the last time I was there the beef was very fatty. Perhaps reduce the portion size and increase quality?

But overall, a great little pub.

The complete opposite of Traders, which is around the corner.
Great food, good selection of 'real ales' and friendly staff who know what their doing!

Visited over the weekend again and my feelings have not changed about this little gem, nicely tucked away just far enough from the droves of pretentious tacky places that exist around the common belt. well worth the search to find.

Agree with previous reviews - does what pubs do best without pretentions

A refreshing find in Clapham, a pub that isn't trying to be something its not. It sticks to the basics and gets them spot on.
shindigger - 21 Feb 2007 13:18
Top pub!! Love it here (see below) and hope it doesn't get overrunn by the herds of HighSt massive.

Great find. Invited to Clapham by friend so expected usual Claphamite Wanabees but spent the day and night in this oasis. Great pub, well run, good food and service. Also had good cleintele being a mix of locals and others who just appreciate a good place to relax and have fun. Top marks and will be back.
KatrinaD - 5 Sep 2006 18:19
I like this pub; its a gem and either it hasnt been discovered by the rest of Clapham or they are too scared to go inside... you get real locals in this pub, good beers and good food... its nice going into a old fashioned styled boozer where you can sit down, relax and not feel like your on the set of Hollyoakes.... the pub is in a quite residential street and there is people all day dropping in for one or two drinks or as a starter pub.. for this reason you get a steady flow of very interesting people in the pub... corker !
whiteboytrash - 13 Aug 2006 18:49
Faultless. Have eaten and drunk here many times recently. The service is amazing -- friendly and inobtrusive as it should be. Food is fresh and menu changes frequently. The conservatory and garden at the back are bright and sunny and the only drawback to this place is that you can spend the whole afternoon.

Ive just discovered the bobbin after the recommendation from a mate of mine nice selection of beers and spirits im afraid im one these awful people who thinks aussie beers are the elixer of life proper ones i mean! however what is it with the staff? went in there for a beer recently and the fact i wanted to be served went down as well as thierry henry joining spurs apart from that nice little pub.
juzza - 28 Mar 2006 11:27
Now i really should not be telling you about this little oasis of a pub in a sea of contemporary Ikea cloned establishments that have spored throughout the locality, but tell you i must.

First and foremost its a pub, yes a pub, food is on hand and although i have not sampled any,by the looks of the empty plates returning to the kitchen all is well.

being on my Guinness period i was not disappointed, head to the bottom of the glass and taste of clean pipes keeps one returning, rather to frequently!.

The pub gets a near 10 rating from myself because of the eclectic mix of people that choose to habit this little Paradise,if you feel that this little island is not for you, then sail pass my friend, and set course for mainland clapham just up the river, just remember what happened to captain Cooke! As for myself and my fellow natives we will remain here, and pray we are never rescued.

And just in case anyone is rather bemused who,or was, or even is Tim Bobin a full description is available in the gents toilets, alas after seven pints of Diesel my total attention in the toilet was taken up trying to keep my penis out of my zip.

Place was packed when I was there. Seemed like a nice enough place but to busy to evaluate. The beer is okay.
jorrocks - 26 Oct 2005 02:12
Shame - we used to like going to this pub - till they had a busy bonfire night and turfed us off the table in order to serve another round of (slightly overpriced) meals. Resulting in us being forced to sit freezing outside as there was no room left inside (standing or sitting). Manager tried to apologise but the round of free drinks couldn't take away the bitter taste of pound signs in their eyes rather than decent service to loyal customers. Would never go there again.
AnneD - 18 Apr 2005 15:25
Avoid eating here like the plague. I went to this pub for a friend's birthday last night and it was not busy. My food did not arrive and when I asked the staff they were rude and dis-interested. After demanding to see the manager and then having to go and find him myself, my food arrived burnt after one hour and 15 minutes after my friends had finished eating. There should be laws against this kind of behaviour.

Just moved into Clapham 3 weeks ago (from Tokyo). Looking for somewhere to watch the Com Shield on Sun and went to the Tom Bobbin. Friendly staff - they turned the volume on the TV up for me anyway. God Awfull background music playing. Like something out of a Spanish Cinema. Menu looks good. Will visit again.

this is a really lovely, warm pub that is often bustling and busy with very friendly customers. an unusual pub, well worth a visit and the food is great.

Good food, quiet most the time - vague locals feel to it. Lots of suits during fri lunchtime
DOZZA - 4 Jul 2003 10:34
interesting little place! - good food and cosy. Strange choice of barstaff - that is if putting their hand in your pint to test if it's cold enough isn't strange!!!
Paul - 22 May 2003 16:58
Nicely refurbished Old Town boozer. Nice-looking conservatory restaurant out the back offering an ambitious foodie menu. Good bar at the front. Affable owner. Never seem to be TOO busy.

Oh,and sometimes some pretty good totty too.
