please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I suppose initial reactions and opinions change as to what sort of day you've had, expectations and the service/experience you receive. I have to say I enjoyed the Logan Rock. We visited on a Monday late afternoon, after a beautiful day at the Jubilee pool in Penzance, followed by a few hours on the beach @ Porthgwarra. The fact it was open and serves food all day was a good starter. Beer was excellent; Proper job, HSD, Tribute and its namesake Logan Rock IPA, along with Rattler cider and various lagers. Pub is quite snug inside, with a cricket theme. We sat on the little patio at the front which was well kept. Food was excellent, including a large gluten free choice for my wife who is a coeliac. I didn't find food or drink any more expensive than most other pubs in the area. Based on this I would definitely recommend...

Like the reviewer below, I wasn't sure about this place either. Overpriced for a start, both for beer and food. The beer wasn't in particularly good nick, with the Dartmoor Best, Tribute and HSD all a bit past it. The Proper Job was pretty good though - although it was expensive to get to find this out!

Having just read previous reviews my thoughts an the Logan Rock are somewhat mixed. As a St Austell House, you know what to expect. As a boozer in the sticks you also know a lack of choice will mean a higher price offering. Overall the pub has a certain charm, but to me it doesn't feel right. At 5.30pm on a Thursday afternoon in September the barman and two locals are engaged in conversation. Barman serves me as if I had intruded, with barely a word exchanged. St Austell Expensive Dartmoor Best at £3.30. He went back to his locals. I went outside to get a bit ot peace. The remains of an earlier diner's meal were stacked on a picnic table.and that is where they stayed. No clearup, no check. So all in all just didn't feel right. 30 minutes later finished my beer and left. Table still uncleared, no one in the bar to receive my empty glass. Maybe short staffed or run on the bare minimum. A potential good pub going to waste by falling well short of customer expectations.

Visited twice at lunchtime whilst on a recent walking holiday. Enjoyed beer, food and service was good. Prices highish, but this seems common in this part of Cornwall

Pretty expensive, seemed pretty unfriendly - though the bar service was at least efficient. Most of the bar, minutes after opening time, was occupied by a few locals holding forth expansively to each other.

Pretty village pub. Efficient service. Geared up around eating, but drinkers are also welcome too although note the comments below about many of the tables being marked up as "reserved" for diners.
St Austell beers. Well kept but quite pricey. Obviously marked up for the tourist market...but that's business I suppose.
Food was simple but freshly prepared and well cooked. Prices high for the standard of cooking.
I came in because it was convenient for my holiday, although I would not go out of my way to visit again.

My wife and I plus two friends visited the pub at 6pm last week. All tables in the Public Bar had reserved tabs on them with a note to say who had reserved them, the time and how many persons - three tables seating four people were reserved for just two people on each! Being disabled I cannot stand at a bar and did not fancy drinking in the abortion for a bar across the corridor, so plonked ourselves down at a table reserved for two diners at 7pm. A round of drinks cost 11. 40 - which we thought was a lot, however we were staying in motor caravans at the village camp site and with no other pub in the village, had no choice but pay it. By 6.50pm we had bought three rounds (34.20) and were then asked by a member of staff to move to allow the two diners to have our table. This we found very humiliating, and with all other tables either reserved or occupied we had to sit outside on what was a cool evening. Had we been allowed to remain at the table we would have had at least two more rounds making a total spend of at least 60. We noted that the two persons taking our place both had half pints of either cider or beer. We would liked to have seen how much they spent on food All four of us having been in business for many years, before our retirement, thought this was very bad economics. Had we felt more welcome we would have used the pub for the next five nights of our stay in the village with a total spend of at least 300. As it was, we did all our remaining drinking in our vans. We thought it was a shame that what appeared to be a village pub was obviously a pseudo restaurant, serving what looked like very inferior and pricey food.

After visiting a nearby cove, we called into this St Austell pub for refreshment and enjoyed their HSD. As it was a warm day we took the beers outside. There is a stone flagged corridor to the bar, and we had 2 halves of HSD and half of Tinners. We were asked for 5.90 by the barman who took a while to calculate the cost. When he rang them up in the till, he changed it to 4.90. He brought the beer from the other bar which was in darkness.

Dropped in on our way back to Penzance at just after 2pm last Monday. Only 1 couple in there who were just finishing their meal. Had a pint of Tribute. When the couple eating had finished their meal, paid and left we were hassled out as they wanted to close, we still had over half a pint each. It was all very polite but definitely hassle.

Agreed, expensive but well kept beers, not much of a cider selection for a South West pub. Food menu looked very average as did the food we saw coming out but didn't try it ourselves. Great location, perfect if camping up the road!

A pretty cornish village pub in an outstanding area, a short walk from the campsite. All tables in the bar reserved for food between 6 and 9, however a good drinking atmosphere appears afterwards. All beers well kept although expensive with tinners 2.70 to HSD at 3.40. The HSD was very good and this is a prime holiday area, it's much like having a pint of Old Peculiar in the Laurel, Robin Hoods Bay, you have to pay for it!
Had something to eat, didnt fancy sitting in the other room over the stone corridoor, it was a nice room but done out with distasteful modern furniture, so we ate in the nice beer garden. The Fish pie was average with sloppy grey coloured mash and the steak pie was poor topped with something more like balsa wood than pastry.I suppose St Austell have to milkk the tourist trade while they can cos there is only one local through the winter...

This place seems geared up for diners rather than drinkers. Lots of reserved signs on the tables. Beer was so expensive. 3.10 for a pint of Tribute or 3.40 for an HSD ! Wouldn't bother returning.

This award winning country farm house style pub guards the road that leads to the picturesque local beauty spot of the pubs name. The pub is well signposted in the local area and fairly easy to find. The doorway leads to a flagstoned corridor with the main bar off to the right.and a second room to the left. The main beam has typically low wooden beams with an orderly collection of brasses and open fireplace where the pub cat or one of the local dogs will probably sprawled out. Old photos abound as well as snippets telling the story of the rock itself (the pub is a good place to start / end the walk but make sure you use the pay & display down the road rather than the pub car park unless you have permission). The large fireplace next to the bar has been turned into an intimate and quite cosy snug and is handy for ordering the beers without having to get up. Not a great selection on the beer front 4 pumps 2 x Tribute and 2 x Tinners and prices above average. Food also looked a bit pricey the people who were eating seemed to have generous portions and it did look pretty decent. The atmosphere was quite relaxed with piped music and a no mobile phone policy.

The second room was not very sympathetically furnished and containd lots of modern art which seemed out of place in the room but I would imagine that it is generally only used in busier periods or for functions. To the rear is a beer garden with bench seating and quite pleasant when the weather allows.

In Cornwall, country pubs like this are fairly commonplace and whilst it is a decent enough place and worthy of a visit, it probably wont leave you counting it among your favourites.

Visited this pub twice for lunch last week; first time we were soaking wet from heavy rainfall as we arrived (from the coast path), but were lucky to find a free table close to the fireplace. A quality pub, serving good food and fresh ales, we had HSD and Tribute.

have got to say this is a very nice pub.staff are friendly and helpfull.we wanted to come down with a group of 20+ on a wed night for some food.we took a menu and let them know what we all wanted to help them and to me they still put alot more staff on than I'd ever seen before.all the food came out together and was excellent. If your in the area I'd def recommend calling in.

Staggered across the fields from our rural B&B to this pub, have been twice before for lunch but never for evening meal mid-week out of season. St Austell ales well kept, food was standard pub fare, keeping it simple. Service regarding food was poor, and we waited an hour for our food, even though only the bar contained the food eaters on a cool April evening, so no more than 5 tables worth. Cosy surroundings in the bar, good atmosphere.

Nice looking pub full of cricket memorabilia in a picture perfect village. Decent beer, polite staff. Shame the 'Cornish Burger' turned out to be two deep fried frozen grillsteaks (or what used to be called grillsteaks when I was a student) in a completely dry white bap served with fairly uninspiring chips for 8.95. Fish and chips (a quid less) was fine. On a Friday night all the tables bar one were booked so they must be doing something right (i.e. being the only pub within walking distance of a small village containing several B&Bs and holding a pub quiz).

Relaxed in this delightful pub almost every night last week and I just wanted to say how friendly the locals and bar staff were, we were made to feel very welcome. The smell of deep fried food has gone. They have the most placid pub dogs you could wish to meet. And the cherry on the delicious cake can't be anything other than the incredible Tribute, a deliciously hoppy St Austell ale that slips down a treat and that I'm going to miss dreadfully!

Gets very busy indeed of an evening and tends to smell of deep fried food but having said that, it's a friendly place and the food is good, a good selection on the menu plus lots of the expected local fish, delicious! It has a reasonably sized main bar area and a small snug at the back as well as a restaurant and ample outside seating.

The pub is named after a big granite rock which mysteriously teeters atop a cliff overlooking the stunning Pendnvownder beach which does actually rock if you stand on it.

Treen is a delightful village in a beautiful location - if you find yourself in this pub then a trip down the cliff to the amazing beach is well recommended. Very friendly campsite round the corner run by a lovely farmer. All in all, an idyllic pocket of England and this pub completes it.
