Rising Sun, St Mawesback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Did not like this pub at all, although it does have a good location, other than that no good, unless you want a resturant then would probably suit!

An excellent St Austell Brewery pub. The Fish in beer batter (tinners Beer) I highly recommend.

Sat outside average pub.

Don't get me wrong - I like this pub - on the positive side it has probably the best location of any public house in the UK. The views from the outside beer garden are just incredible.
But my last few visits have been less than enthralling. I think Beerblues hit the nail on the head. After the refurb a couple of years back all the locals seem to have departed and it's become a tourist pub. Nothing wrong with that per se, but it lacks soul, warmth. But as a moneymaking entity there can be few better.
It's efficient enough, beers are OK and the bar food is OK, but I think the Victory Inn nearby is superior.

Just like Shortage we visited this pub last week and had a few drinks in the bar. Enjoyed the experience and would certainly go again. Restaurant meals looked expensive but bar food seemed reasonable.

Contrasting areas... splendid flagged floor, simply furnished public bar plus up-market restaurant. We only used the bar... usual range of St Austell beers, but served through swan-necks & sparklers. However the very friendly staff were happy to remove the sparklers to serve a 'Southern-style' pint. Beer excellent & bar food - though not cheap - looked outstanding. (We were staying in the hotel opposite so didn't eat.) Quite a few locals around who were chatty and informative... altogether a pleasant experience.
Those writing above must have caught hem on a bad hair day: our experience could not have been more different!

Basil Fawlty still lives!! On entering the "Hotel" bar in order to order food for an evening bar meal, I found (who I presume to be) the proprietor arguing with a customer in front of me and being quite undeservedly rude to him, although I came in 1/2 way through this confrontation, but it didn't augur well. I ordered my food (2 x battered cod & chips) and explained where I would be sitting outside. I then sat outside to await my meal. The terrace was packed with people, all eating. Periodically, an antipodean 'oik' brought food out and each time shouted out the customer's surname at the top of his voice. "R O B I N S O N" (no trace of a polite 'Mr' Robinson). This occured each and every time. I felt like a young school child responding to to a register call at morning assembly. I thought that as a customer of a supposedly respectable establishment that the staff would at least have the common courtesy of addressing their 'valued' customers with a title. Our food arrived and very disappointed we were; the battered cod had clearly NOT been battered on the premises and had been bought in pre-battered and frozen. The batter was extremely soggy and sloppy underneath, quite unlike fish which had been freshly battered on the premises. We were extremely disappointed in both the management, staff rudeness and standard of food which used to be exceptional in previous days
