This is actually one of the better Spoons I've been in. Beer is always well kept though I do wish they wouldn't keep on pushing Bays ales which I quite dreadful. There are some comfy booths on the left hand side of the pub but you have to be very lucky to nab one! Mr Bateman's comments are a bit harsh but Paignton does suffer from a lack of decent pubs. This one, sadly, is the best.

We chose to drink in this Spoons, as Paignton is such an absolute dump, that we were too scared to enter any of the other ghastly looking pubs.
It was clean and had good service and with Thatchers Gold Cider for £2.55 a pint, you could do a lot worse ... especially in this Seaside Town that they forgot to shut down.
Thank God we were only staying for one night.

We had just enough time for a couple of beers and were glad to find this Wetherspoons as everything else in Paignton looked "uninviting". Beer was very good and the staff very friendly and helpful. I had O'Hanlons and Bays both of which were in good nick. Worthy of its current entry in the Good Beer Guide.

Standard Wetherspoons pub but as per the other comments, very good as the staff are friendly and the beer quality good. I enjoyed the Bays real ales which were being promoted under the CAMRA LocAle scheme.

Fantastic experience every time. Always bursting at the seems! A credit to Colin the landlord!

The beer was good for a Wetherspoons and at least they had some guests on. Too many pushing Greene King IPA just now and the guests suffer from it, but these were fine.

OK pub - soon gets cold when the doors are left open in winter, staff very pleasant

great pub, just goes to show how a spoons pub could be run,the ones in the west country are allways far better, and this takes it a stage further, best in town

Far and away the best hostelry in Paignton - which has sadly seen a steady decline in the quality of its pubs over the past 10 years. Yes, it's a Wetherspoon's and I know they attract a mediocre "press" in these reviews generally - but this is genuinely one of the best ones. Good atmosphere, attentive and welcoming staff and a superb range of beers which seem to be served in prime condition. The pub does excellent trade and leaves the others in the town centre for dead. Quite frankly, the others were "dead" by comparison - which is not surprising when you see what little they have to offer!

Service & staff were excellent on the two occasions i have visited this summer.Decorwise there are some wonderful nostalgic photos of Paington, although the majority are upstairs (as you have to go to visit the loo). Food was typical wetherspoons, cheap & filled a hole, but unlike a lot of Wetherspoons pubs at least the meals here were consistantly hot when served.

In the town, well off the sea front. Seemed a nice, clean building. About six cask ales offered. The two I tried were nicely on form. Food looked ok. Standard wetherspoon menu. would go again.

Always bursting at the seams. Food and booze very good value. Not bad atmosphere in there either. A good pub.

Much better than the Torquay 'branch' and if you've got to 'go Wetherspoons' - I s'pose this is the one. Food is very so-so, but what do you expect for the price. At least it has some atmosphere.

Good place to eat for the price. Look for the specials... Sometimes difficult to get a seat though. Friendly staff, decent choice of beers.

usual wetherspoons but decent staff and foods ok
