Above avergage prices for below average food. Our second visit here is quite possibly the last. Chicken Wrapped In Bacon served with vegetables, potatos and - wait for it - smothered in tinned tomatos - WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! Never again.

Now the beer here is kept as well as can be expected for a chain pub.. Its a beefeater as pointed out by others... So average beer at slightly above average prices.. Your guaranteed a warm welcome as the ventilation in The George resembles that of a U-Boat that has been submerged for 24 hours, so its always close and sticky.. The food to be fair is not bad for a beefeater... had a very nice Mixed grill at a reasonable price by getting in before 7 when the full price menu kicked in,the waiting staff were very pleasant and helpful The bar staff clearly had sociability issues (why work in a pub if you dont like people?) The highlight of the visit is watching those people who think that Beefeater is the height of Posh Nosh....hilarious..

This place is not great by any means!!!

They had 2 real ales on; Pedigree and Banks. We were told on the Friday night that they had run out and were not going to get a delivery until Monday. The following night they were back on!! We only found out about this after we had order pints of Tetleys!!! I was not happy, Tetleys - yuck!!

Another thing which went down like a brick parachute when we found out was that the bar and the Restaurant have different menus!!!!
The one in the bar is far better! Its cheaper as well!!!!! The restaurant menu is expensive for what you get which is the same quality of food as served in the bar. I would say that the general quality of the food is just below Weatherspoons standard.

The George in the Tree is tied onto the Premier Inn next door and is used to serve breakfast to the hotel guests. The organisation of the breakfast service is slow and poor with wrong orders being regularly brought out and on top of that the breakfasts arent that good anyway.

Its a Beefeater so you get what you get. The A446 makes a restful change from the motorways around Birmingham these days - it used to be the primary route and a nightmare - and this pub is indeed useful for a half hour's break if you're passing, the next one north towards Lichfield is a fair stretch away.

New Manager and the place has gone up in quality and standard no end. I would definately recommend.
Food Quality and variety fantastic and service equally good.

I will be going back - as will my friends!

Really Not That Great.

Whilst the worst our 3 meals had to offer were over-cooked steaks, un-peeled carrots which had been left for far to long before serving and bad service by the staff; The same cannot be said for the two other couples who arrived shortly after us who in one instance recieved literally a tiny cremated piece of steak and a cold baked potato and in the other, cold, undercooked food. Not surprisingly both parties sent the food back. We weren't far behind.

As for beers, we couldn't vouch for the bar, but not surprisingly they had none of the cheapest wine on the list, leaving us with one at around 4 a 250ml glass.

To summarise, the pub is nice, has a modern feel and a mixed, friendly atmosphere but is let down by almost consistently atrocious food prepartion and a desire to cover every meal, no matter what type, with tabasco or another form of strong spice.

Its not quite a tradidional pub, trying to get business from almost every other form of culinary style (indian, italian, thai, chinese, tabasco), not quite there yet.
