Beware this is one of a few pubs locally that close on a Saturday afternoon, despite being on an A road., where there should be regular passing trade. We arrived at a couple of minutes past 3pm to find the doors open. But the girl behind the bar said they were closed. We returned later in the evening to find the place fairly busy with many people eating food and a few drinkers at the bar. The same lady was waiting on tables and working the bar, meaning a long wait for drinks service. Only 1 ale was available - Badger First Gold. A little disappointing in all.

Quite a small roadside pub with a large car park.Drinking area close to the side entrance and around the real fire. Most of the tables beyond the bar set up for meals.Well kept Badger and Tanglefoot on hand pump and the food is home cooked if a little pricey.Very friendly welcome in this food orientated establishment.

This Pub has just changed hands in the last 6 weeks. We had stopped coming here because of a previous dissappointment. The visit today(11 July 09) was a pleasant suprise. The meals were excellant as was the service. The Staff| Management were polite and friendly without being obtrusive. A+++ Will recommend to all my friends and will definately visit again. My only comment would be, lets have more of a fish selection.

Now this is my kind of pub. It's a bit worn around the edges (that's a good thing, in my view). But I don't mean it's dirty, it's just a proper pub. The beer is nicely kept. Hall & Woodhouse, which I like. But the thing here is the food. Wow! Why it's not listed as a gastro pub I have no idea.

They do light snacks and things (I've had an omelette here which was very nice) but do yourself a favour, have a proper meal. I go in there often now. Ben, the chef has a wonderful pork dish he calls his signature dish and it's gorgeous. But I haven't had anything in here yet that hasn't been fantastic. he does a steak pudding you could just die for.

I'm normally a lunch eater and haven't been there in the evening, but I've not had to book. This place is a real hidden treasure. And it's reasonably priced. I've had horrible plastic portion-controlled food that cost more than this

Emma, who's the landlady, I think is really lovely too. Wonderful cheery smile.

under new management. We were made very welcome, and had a very nice lunch. The starters were substantial, delicious and beautifully presented. Steaks were above average and good value for money, and once again well presented. No room for a pudding alas! We will definately go again.

Great pub quiz on a Sunday night, if you don't mind the Landlord taking the p*** if your general knowledge is a bit wayward.
BTW: To help your chances, cheer at any Chelsea references, and don't mention the French!
Good for Hall & Woodhouse beer and it's quisine.
