user reviews of Bowling Green, Leamington Spa

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This place is currently closed. The sign is still up and the garden at the rear looks as if somebody has tended to it fairly recently. But it's all locked up and the upstairs windows were broken. The first of 3 closed pubs in a row! The area south of the river in Leamington feels like a real ale ghost town.

Went here with a few friends a month back.

Very nice, good clean decor, clearly a lot of work has been done since so of the earlier reviews on here.

Very comfortable, classy interior while still retaining that loccal feel.

Would recommend to any and all!

Went in here a couple of weeks ago to see if it was still open! Yes it is. If it carries on I don't think it will close. The locals are all rallying round. A couple are doing the garden and It looks excellent. The toilets have had a lot of walk do to them. The whole inside is being repainted. The beer was very nice. They had Deuchers IPA, Green King IPA and Hopback Summer lightning. The Summerlightning was very drinkable. I have improved my rating from 3/10 to 7/10.

Spent a great night in here thursday. The Deuchers was excellent. The atmosphere was great, the locals are so warm and welcoming to an outsider. Have changed my mind totally about this place. gone from 3/10 to 8/10.

Good beer, friendly locals and a pleasant garden - apart from the fag ends multiplying like bacteria in a petri dish. And that's the reason it's struggling - it's filthy inside and out! People really don't like dirty pubs.

So yes, let's save the Bowler - and do it with some tins of paint, a few squirts of Domestos and a bit of TLC. Don't rely on the pub company to put any cash in - they don't give a toss, it's just a property asset to them. I've seen plenty of pubs in far more terminal states than the Bowling Green turn themselves around - so, Leamingtonians, are you up for it?

I was staying in Leamington a few weeks ago and read in the local paper that it might close, so I paid it a visit. Well two visits actually because it was a great little boozer with decent beer. The beer was better here than in the only GBG-listed pub in the town. It was also very handy for my B&B. Hope you Leamingtonians manage to save it.

Have been using this site for a while always ment to registor. The News that the Bowler could be closing had made me give something back to this site. Please we all need to get behind the bowler and try to keep it open. I enjoy this pub very much. I know this story is the same at hundreds location across the country. We need a 'Save The Bowler Campaign'

Just read the last review. I total agrre this is one of my faviourite places in Leamington. Few months since I last went in. It would be a great loss to the beer drinkers of this country if it was lost. Nearly 400 years of history makes it a bristish treasure. Will be in at first available opertunity.

I like the place. The pubs been trading on this site since around 1625 which makes it the oldest pub in leamington. possible going to close due to down turn in trade blamed on the smoking ban! I sat in the sun trap of the garden on wednesday night it was lovely. Place needs some money spent on it but staff and customers a very friendly. Well worth a trip. Please lets help save leamingtons oldest pub!

Lovely pub. Character to this place. Needs a repaint and some tiling in the gents but the warmth of a genuine back street local.

Excellent back street local. First class pint of deuchers IPA. Staff and locals are a great bunch.
First class boozer.

It's a fine, unreconstructed local. Nothing's changed much since at least the 70s. Pubs like this are getting scarcer all the time and need supporting.

Much improved, under new management (katie and cath) Now permanently serving Hopback Summer Lightning and soon to be serving Thatchers Cask Cider.

We really liked this pub. OK so we're a couple of old mates meeting up for some beers in a strange town but this pub was just what we were looking for. Friendly, well kept, interesting range of beers. A great pub where you can sit and natter and drink in a relaxing atmosphere. Really good bar staff as well. Not the cleanest of places but that isn't really what I look for in a good pub. I'd go there again if I ever found myself in Leamington Spa again

Lovely little pub in a great setting. Million miles away from the Friday night carnage of the town centre. Lots of 'real' beer and charming staff and locals. While the kids are getting twisted down town, this is where Dad and his pals go
