Sorry to say first experience will be the last one. Popped in for lunch and ordered the Paella. Big mistake eating this microwaved rubbish. I spent all night swapping ends on the loo and 3 days later I’m slowly getting back on track. There are some great places to get good food in Hampton Court... This unfortunately isn't one of them.

Went to this pub last week for lunch. Had been there once before, prior to the refurbishment, and it was pretty dark and dingey and run down back then - but at least it had some character! Food was, unfortunately, awful. I had fish and chips, partner had beef and ale pie. Both were very disappointing. Pie looked like it had come straight from the microwave (it took about 7 minutes from ordering to receiving, so I am fairly sure that's what happened). The fish wasn't tasteless - sadly, because it really didn't taste good at all. And the chips were soggy. For the money (around £8 a meal) really not good. The bar staff told us $600,000 had been spent doing up the Prince of Wales. It's a shame they didn't spend some that on a decent chef.
If you are in the area, I suggest you go elsewhere.

Went in here the other night and what a total let down. Poor service was an understatement! Never again.
Was told the Cardinal Wolsey instead as I heard it had been revamped too. Glad I made the decision as the Cardinal was rocking. Served instantly, the beer was great and the new owners are really nice.
Top music venue as well. Plus it has a new projection screen for Sky Sports. So at last, somewhere to watch the footie at last in the area!
|
very poor service, new manageress obviously does not care . as was reflected by the rest of the staff.no real ale available , food was microwaved. over all a bad experience avoid at all costs

hmmmm, funny place. looks good but is lacking an atmosphere. I was sitting outside with the fella and suddenly the tables and chairs were taken out from under us at 10:30pm...I have no problem with this, but a friendly warning from the staff would have been nice!
Seemed to be full of drunk men in suits?!?! But I love the toilets, very good.
Must say the most amusing highlight was when my fella had to actually reach behind the pump to get his Guninness....the bar server had walked off and left it.... And yes it was a full and ready to drink pint!
Not sure if I'll be going back...

Just had a refurb and looks brilliant inside. Food was very good and a cracking selection of drinks.
|
After refurbishment its like drinking in a doctors waiting room. When I called in this evening all 3 real ales were off, only fizz was available. The bar is too small and there's nowhere to stand. Not a pub if you are on your own. Go over th4e road to the Albion instead.

This pub has been completely refurbished, a vast improvement. It's a gastro pub now, just what Hampton Court and this pub needed as it was very run down before.

Nice pub. Good size bar area. Plenty of TV screens to watch your favourite footy team..! Car park at rear. Walking distance from Hampton Court Bridge. Off the main drag, so only locals know about it! Average age in the pub = 29yrs. So i felt a bit old...! But it was pleasant, and the Carlsberg was probably the best lager I'd ever tasted in the world...!!! (If you've never been in a 'Bluebeckers'...checkit out nearby, they do great steaks & burgers)!! TJ (Trying earnestly to educate the world...!) !

I like the Prince, the people are varied, the food is delicious & reasonably priced, good range of drinks and the managers are friendly. What more do you need when you visit a pub? Only thing I would say is the toilets could do with updating and maybe making two toilets in the girls instead of three because it is really hard to get in and out of the cubicles and that's coming from a small woman!

Disagree with the last person regarding going over the road to the Alion it has gone down hill since new manager took over staff useless, this pub is much better than Albion, although Bell is up and coming now since been taken over.

Sorry to disagree beeronaut, not a locals bar anymore, too many foul mouthed low-life in there at times. Go across the road to the Albion or up the road to the Bell or Poynze.

Down-to-earth locals' pub overshadowed by the Albion nearly opposite. Serving three Greene King beers, the Prince of Wales is also dominated by three (at least) large television screens. It may not have been the worst in the area but the area has lost a lot of pubs recently, one or two of which were from this very street.
|
Had an excellent pint of Greene King in here, it's an impressive Victorian building, and the interior is likeably separated into several different drinking areas...
... but there were FIVE different TV screens blasting out football! This totally alienates people who (a) want a quiet drink and (b) don't like football. If you want to watch football, go to a football match, don't spoil a good pub. For this reason, I won't hurry back
|
popped for a couple of pints and they had music on, a blues/hendrix type band called Grape? Pub seemed ok to me, food looked decent, beer was good as was the music. It's not like the Grey Horse/Bull Head tpye music venue but decent enough. Will probably return

service is shit, food is bad, barstaff are'nt friendly.they dont even talk to each other much. landlord takes the piss out of everyone..
avoid.
|
Average pub, not the best service, although the barmaid was quick enough to serve her mates. Thought about eating here, but then thought better of it. Saying that however, as a pub, the atmosphere wasn't bad, and the choice of drinks good - personally I'd walk over to the other side of the road and sup in the Albion.
|
good in it's time, but seems alls gone to shite, i miss the old days when john and tracy ran the place
|
Lovely staff, the young woman who seemed to be in charge provided great friendly service. Beer was properly looked after (Green King products). Nice locals. I liked the food well enough - decent sausage and mash.
|
Outstanding staff, good beer and sensibly priced, very nice garden, children welcome and reasonable parking.
However, if it's food you want, go to the Bell as the whole area around Hampton Court is geared to the tourist with standards to match when it comes to pub food. Be warned as a tourist, value for money in pub food is not easy to get the nearer you are to the Thames. This pub is about 175 meters from the river!.

An average pub. Excellent and speedy service. Food dreadful. Won't be eating here again.
|
Often I come down here for a quick after-work pint and end up staying way too long.. The atmosphere is relaxed - friendly locals propping up the bar, digital jukebox which is generally used properly, great staff and a fairly mixed clientele.. It genuinely is one thing that i will miss about the area when i move in a few months time..

Great Pub, now sells 3 Real Ales (IPA,Hen and HSB). The food is good and reasonable especially the sandwiches and prompt service. The Broadband Internet jukebox is great albeit pricey (£1 a track if its downloaded) but its great to have the choice. The music can be loud in the bar( not the eating area) but if you want a quiet drink go across the road to the Albion.
|
Er, just logged on and saw my comment about this pub was wrong. I should have said "it would have been a bit intimidating if any of the punters had been aged UNDER 60 but they weren't. Sorry.
robin - 7 Oct 2004 10:18 |
This is a truely odd place. When I dropped in no-one was sitting anywhere but at the bar, no-one wasn't smoking, , no-one wasn't waering too much gold and no-one wasn't dressed up in their "best" clothes. It would have been a bit intimidating I suppose if any of the punters had been aged over 60 but they weren't. The music was very loud and the aircon was freezing cold. On balance, one to avoid I think.

Great pub, great atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and managers very accomadating. Food is awesome and I fully recommend to everyone.
Ben - 27 Jul 2004 19:39 |
There's a sign above the door saying 'The warmest of welcomes awaits', or words to that effect. Pity they didn't tell that to the Stella'd-up psychos by the bar. Had a nice enough garden at the back, but when I went out to check it out, it was full of baseball capped Stella boys, smoking cheap, nasty hash. I didn't hang around...

Builders' paradise. If you love hearing lots of loud drunk swearing you're in for a treat. Funny, since it bills itself as a 'family pub'...
