please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Stag at Offchurch is a picturesque thatched village pub that was only spoiled by some unsightly roadworks outside. The interior was pleasant enough. But service felt a touch pretentious. Adverts in the toilets for gift vouchers to use in the restaurant revealed that it's part of a small chain of 3 pubs. Despite the external appearance, this is very much a restaurant, as opposed to a pub. Although they did have 3 ales - Tribute, Ubu & Hooky and its one other redeeming feature for me - Henneys Traditional Cider, not something I've seen on handpull before.

Now just the Stag at Offchurch.

A wonderful example of a country inn. Immaculate old thatched building with log burning fires.

Four real ales on - I went for a superb Hook Norton Hooky (best pint for a long time). The high quality made the £3.70 slightly more palatable.

Popped in for a quick one whilst on a walk. 2,Warwickshire beers on, Duck Pond and Darling Buds. As well as Church End Cuthberts which was a beautiful and very welcome pint. Menu looks excellent must bring my good lady. On side of its van it's refered to a eating pub of the year as well as having an Egon ronie plack on the front. Also great whiskey selection.

Been a couple of times and really like the atmosphere, quite a posh clientele so you do get loud people telling their group (and everyone else within earshot) about their fantastic lives and name-dropping until the cows come home, which can be a little tedious. But despite this, worth a visit.

Went here on Saturday - Beer was very good...had a pint from the Warwickshire Brewery before dinner, which was in good nick. The food was just as good as reported, although this site is about BEER, so that is what I am writing about. Would visit again.

Myself and my husband had been recommended The Stag by a couple of our friends so finally decided to take the 25 mile trip to the village of Offchurch over the Easter weekend (Saturday Night). Being from Solihull we are used to a handful of decent Gastro Pubs on our doorstep but NOTHING compares to the FANTASTIC food, service and atmosphere we receive at The Stag. We regularly eat out and so are used to (and bored by) the usual gastro pub style menus with the typical fish & chunky chips, box baked camembert, etc and was thrilled to see the extensive and original menu The stag offered. The food was truly first class. The fish sharing plate was gorgeous and my husband said his fillet steak was the best steak he had ever eaten. The pork tenderloin I picked was equally one of the best meals I have had too. We were welcomed and seated at our table by a very pleasant female manager, another waitress looked after our drink requirements and another manager (this time an extremely knowledgeable male) took our order. Although it sounds like a lot of people, the set up really works and has clearly been tried, tested and perfected by the young and good looking team. We truly had an exceptional evening and left feeling very well fed. The only downside was having to drive 25 miles home as the very well stocked bar and wine list was asking to be drunk!! Next time a taxi would definitely not be out of the question.

Had lunch here today (Mother's Day 2010). 'Front of house' was excellent - welcoming, friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Sadly, we didn't feel as complementary about what came out of the kitchen. The complimentary bread and olives were lovely but it was all downhill from there. The vegetarian antipasti selection was truly bizzare comprising something which tasted like Coronation chicken but without the chicken and some pickled onions amongst other things. The dressing for the Caesar salad was also disappointing lacking a bit of depth. The lamb grill was overpowered by the sauce, served with a burnt rosti...and, you get the picture. I think basically, the chef is trying too hard to be interesting - and failing. It's a lovely pub though so do go; just remember to stick to steak and chips

We went on the 5th of November on the evening, the pub has had a change of ownership and the new couple, Charles and Lizzie, were a very energetic and pleasant young couple. Whilst we did not eat on this occasion, we are really looking forward to trying out the menu. Well worth a visit!

Visited 17/05/09 for Sunday lunch. There were 4 in our party & 2 meals were unacceptable - Roast potatoes were so overcooked that it was bearly possible to cut them. They were dark brown with virtually no soft potato in the middle. We were asked if we wanted the roast beef pink to which we said yes. It was however not pink & tasted & looked processed (uniform thickness). Gravy had the most peculiar bitter flavour (no meat flavour), as if it was just several Oxo cubes dissolved in hot water. The poussin looked nothing like any poussin I have seen before - It was not a complete little bird but random chicken pieces, some of which were overcooked & some undercooked. The vegetables were very unadventurous -peas & carrots that tasted like tinned carrots.
We sent the 2 meals back the first time & although some potatoes were replaced the rest of these 2 meals was still not acceptable.
The other 2 meals were sausage & mash - very ordinary tasting for 9 and a fishcake which did have some taste, but again quite expensive at 9.
The lady we complained to was not interested in what we had to say - dismissive & contradictory. We were only able to get one meal taken off the bill. We had to pay 38. We have enjoyed better meals at Wutherspoons. Never Again!

Pleasing beer, roaring fire, friendly staff who collected my glass when empty & took orders for the next round & provided table service

In october 2008 the Stag changed owners. We are an independently run country pub that provides freshly prepared locally sourced food at very sensible prices. Based on a simple model of quality food, friendly service and comfortable interior we serve an Anglo-French menu, which changes with the seasons. We hope you come and join us very soon. Just visted The Stag, with my husband, for lunch, on the recommendation of a friend. We had a very good meal at a reasonable price. As a cold January day with the temperature - 2% when we arrived, the log fire was most welcoming as were the staff. I understand a young couple have recently taken over the pub and seem to be changing both the food, beer and decor for the better.

The vilage of Offchurch has much character to it and I would recommend a trip to both the pub and vilage as well worthwhile

Being a young Offchurch local, and only within a year of moving there, it is nice to see that someone is making an effort to transform The Stag. Our "local" tended to be the Red Lion in Hunningham (great pub but always involved the car due to the distance so my wife or I couldn't have a drink) as The Stag was your typical village pub for regulars only, with newcomers given the odd glance and limited service.
The new owners seem great, having chatted with them, and the food is excellent so here's hoping that the "olde worlde" decor is updated and the maze type layout is sorted as well as the garden getting some attention in the summer that was mentioned.
My only critiscisms at the moment are a limited menu (but excellent quality food!), due to the layout the regulars tend to block the way through to the main area thus making it daunting to new visitors and the slightly cramped eating area, although I'm sure these problems are to be rectified with future progression.
Well worth a visit for the new menu, friendly owners and the amazing steak!

Since change of ownership the quality of this pub (more a pub and restaurant) is superb, weekends and weekdays. Varied menu, quality food and drink and very pleasant service. Book in advance for Sundays, great for mid week business lunches. Masses of parking and a nice garden at the rear.

Just had a fantastic Sunday dinner. It was a meal worthy of a posh restaurant. Had to very nice well kept and well served pints of Jennings 'Cumberland Ale'. The pub is a lovely cozy local. Well worth a visit.

Attractive old boozer smack bang in the centre of the village not far from Leamington. Its not the biggest pub inside but it looked smart yet unpretentious i.e. not like a wine bar. Couple of real ales available which is a bonus and they tasted the part too. Was doing a good trade on the food which may have been the reason why it took a while to get served at the bar but the barman was apologetic and amiable. Also has a rather snazzy smoking area outside that looked ideal for those in need of a quick drag. Will definitely scout out this place again.

Decent little place, nice and clean. Had a Jennings Cumberland Ale when I was last in here, that particular ale ain't my favourite but i appreciate the fact it was well kept all the same.

The pub is very relaxed and cozy. A great place to go.

Had a good beer here once - however when trying to book a table(for 5)was told by the manager a table of 4 had already booked for 12.30 and chef would struggle with 2 tables at the same time. A slight worry as this is NOT a small pub and has an extensive menu. Not risked trying the food as we would not wish to put undue strain on the Chef.

Always has three regular cask beers on tap with a guest beer which changes each week. Owned by Pubmaster it is well managed, friendly and at present has acceptable food.
