Visited here today, on a rather splendid sunny day, although perhaps a little bit too hot to be comfortable. We sat outside and luckily were covered away from the sun by those brolleys they put on the tables. I decided on a pint of London Pride, definitely one of the best beers i've had in a while, I could not force myself to have another DoomBar which gets pretty bland.

I had the Jacket Potato with baked beans and cheese, which tasted fine and did not take too long to arrive. There appeared to be a lack of choice on meals overall but I still felt it was a worthwhile place to come during a walk or a nice sunny day. Probably worthy of an 8/10

Going downhill - rapidly!

Half way point on a walk..... Stopped for a very quick pint of doombar. Probably not there more than 15 mins. Ok.

More a restaurant than a pub, The Parrot is a pretty large, modern type of establishment, with a lot of tables. Even on a Thursday lunchtime it was fairly busy, mostly with folks even older than us. I doubt it ever gets too rowdy here, and I can understand the lack of atmosphere comment below.

Beers were London Pride, the ubiquitous Doom Bar and Shere Drop. So a fairly standard 2 nationals and one local. Ale was fine.

Food was reasonably good. I had Lamb Shank, which came with vegetables but was crying out for some good solid spuds with it. Staff were friendly.

Nothing spectacular at the Parrot, but nothing terrible either. Would happily re-visit if passing the door.

Staff friendly 3 beers on which were ok, only down side not much atmosphere.

Exactly, people always want something for nothing. No wonder we are losing our pubs. Put your hand in your pocket and stop complaining.......you didn't leave hungry!!!!!

Why should you get compensation if you got what you ordered in the end ???
Guildforddrinker - 4 Nov 2011 16:55

We ended up here after being turned off by the Seahorse's rude and pretentious demeanour. And we were very glad we did. The Shere Drop and Doom Bar were lovely as was the steak and kidney pudding. The staff were friendly and helpful which makes a pleasant change to many of the pubs around Guildford (The Ship - I'm looking at you in particular).

A really nice place to stop for a drink and some pub grub.

Good pub that I ended up at the halfway point of a bike ride from Farnham back in May (one of the hot days!). Food was good, as was the Doombar ale. Will definitely return when in Shalford again.

visited today. Friendly and attentive service. Very good food. Lamb -really tasty, pizza was huge and the fish and chips were delicious.

We use this pub one and a while and I find the beer good normally 3 on and my wife likes the wine choice, all in all good.

i think the food here is awful. my wife had a cheese jacket...the cheddar was tasteless and the jacket was out of a microwave, soft skin a giveaway. i had a steak baguette...very mediocre. my parents had a ham, egg and chips. the ham was plastic, the chips were a very poor frozen product, the egg was the only redeeming factor. the lager was good and not overpriced, but on the upside the place looks good and is tidy,

Have been in a few times this summer. The pub is very well kept (including the samll garden) the staff are friendly and it serves a good pint (including the excellent Shere Drop and Doom Bar - heaven!). The menu is quite extensive and the impression is of simple ingredients, well cooked and presented - definitely a cut above standard pub grub. One of the pasta dishes was a bit too rich for the volume served but everything else we've tried has been very good.

Stopped on way down canal, good food. Steaks, one done medium rare, one done medium, both excellent. One pizza that, good sauce, plenty of cheese. Last dish was lamb, also good. Vegatables a little disappointing. Desert, peanut brittle stack, very good but a bit dry. Added ice ceam.

actually not bad, don't expect fine dinning, but an honest pub lunch not too dear.

Another pub in Shalford and this was also a nice enough pub, if not quite as nice as the Seahorse. Nontheless the ales were good, Surrey Hills being my choice but there was also Doom Bar and London Pride. Interesingly they also sold an alcoholic ginger beer. Nice garden seating, if a little old fashioned both inside and outside. Feels like a pub set in Cornwall on a nice sunny day.

Awful food at high prices. They could do with checking the use-by date on the meat and, if they make it into burgers, try and make enough so they don't have to tear a chunk off mine to put into someone else's stale bap.

Average village green pub and pricey.

Good food, good beer and very lovely garden but in serious need of interior update.
Theguyonhisown - 25 Nov 2008 17:14
Do you remember the good old days when the landlord would be polishing glasses and would not stand for any 'language'? This is the place for you then, Very clean and tidy, efficient staff and a nice pint of Shere Drop. This landlord runs a tight ship.

Had a pint of shere drop in the garden. Very tidy outside, one of my friends commented that the inside of the pub is stuck in the 80's and needs updating. 6/10, not sure what MrReasonable's comment re. busy roads are about, the pub isn't on a main road???
beergibbon - 22 Sep 2008 11:29
I don't get it. We drink in the Parrot regulary, and always struggle to hear the music. I suggest some people turn thier hearing aids down a bit.
one_for_the_road - 27 Jun 2008 21:53
Prices a little steep but the second choice pub for locals. Pleasant beer garden surrounded by greenery. Tow path walk nearby with beautiful rural vistas. Best to drink in the garden to avoid the loud music. Pleasant country pub, bring the family.

We were boating on the River Wey and moored nearby for the night. Good food, friendly service and a lovely pint of Shere Drop, this is my kind of pub.
alski - 29 Mar 2008 11:19
Food decent but a little on the expensive side. Friendly service, good Shere Drop ale. Nice clean place good for family trips
The radio playing music more suited to a Guildford nightclub was not to my taste but overall we had a good experience.

Visit this excellent pub on a regular basis, friendly staff and great food. One of the few places in the area to remain consistently good without using popularity as an excuse for upping prices and reducing quantity!
Castiche - 9 Aug 2007 16:55
Visited on Saturday just gone - beer was nice, but 5.80 for a coke and a pint was rather steep. The garden is nice, but all a bit structured with the seats laid out in lines symmetrically.
King_Viv - 12 Jun 2007 11:26

Fantasic pub, excellent food. David and Trisha are fantastic hosts. Other pubs could really learn from them.
one_for_the_road - 22 Aug 2006 23:48
Excellent food;good ale;warm welcome.Shame about the wasps in the beer garden!
groeslon - 1 Aug 2006 14:54
I found this to be a most friendly pub, and I was pleasently surprized at the high standard of the accomodation. As a local Manager I needed to find alternative accomodation for my colleagues, and this fits the bill nicely. Food is also excellent. Richard Thompson - Duty Manager

Good selection of food but expensive

Is a B & B as well as a pub. Refreshing place to have a drink after a walk by the river. The ale there is brilliant!
