Nearly four years since last review here. I'm not surprised when I went in there were just a few old boys leaning on the bar. Not many others in except for a crowed of loud youths playing pool. Beer & staff OK and other customers friendly enough its just the place is in urgent need of decorating its not been touched in years there is damp stained patches all over the ceiling & walls and general appearance is very tatty. Its all the little things that could easy be fixed like worn or broken fittings & furniture and lack of general maintenance. Its OK for a quick pint or watching football but not a pub you could stay in for a session.

I used to come into the pub when a young family owned it, I thought it was a good pub, good food and good conversation. The publicans son was really sweet :-)
Recently, I went in with a couple of girl friends and I was applauded at how filthy the pub was, there was men collected around the main entrance smoking; It was intimating and horrible to walk into. The language and the type of conversation in the pub was filth and made me and my friends feel awkward and we actually found it creepy. The head bar man or manager ?? I am guessing he is about 55, short and grey hair ran around after barmaid that were young enough to be his children.
The toilets looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the pub was built and the food is grey bland and uninspiring. The food took half an hour to come out, but the pub was practically empty apart from the letchy old men around the pool table.
If you are looking for a pub in Southgate I would recommend the White Hart. At least its clean!

This Pub seems too have gone down Hill since I last visited. When I went in early on Wednesday evening it was very quiet just a few Guys play pool and swearing every other word and everyone else was standing around the bar so no one could get served when they came into the Pub. The Place looked as if it had not been cleaned for months Plus the Pint I had was well past its best. Don't think I would go back again.

A local pub with a lot of character, plenty of seating in the summertime found in the front and back, helpful friendly staff, large screen for sports, pool table and a darts board to keep the revellers busy. Not forgetting the Sunday Quiz night and the friendly landlord Kevin.

This is an OK pub with a healthy local contingent that were playing pool and darts and generally saving the planet. Its pretty spacious inside and there is plenty of outside seating.

Usual lagers were on offer alongside Bombardier and Adnams with one pump clip turned. There are a couple of televisions with Sky for watching the football etc.

I thought that this was an OK pub, but I wouldnt go out of my way to drink here.

Went in here last night after work nice relaxing pub with nice quiet area at back thats good to sit in if your reading or talking to company without the loud music or TV. Good Pint of London Pride I would say Much better than most the other local Pubs. Has TVs & Pool In the large front Bar If thats what you like.

Best pub in Southgate for me, the Landlord is very friendly and they now have a couple of real ales on London Pride and Adnams, the Pride was in excellent condition.

Very much a young person-friendly traditional working class pub.

Having lived close to the pub all my life i've seen it have its ups and downs.
The current landlord Kevin is probably the best they have had since Ken and Bridgette in the mid 1990's. Following them there was a period of steady decline which Kevin seems to be reversing.

A good atmosphere in there now and very busy on Thrusday and Friday evenings.

The land lord who took this pub over recently, really makes you feel welcome. He use to be at the Bull & Butcher in Whetstone. We have followed him to The Fish Mongers Arms. The old pub he was at is now on its last legs, because when he left it went right down hill. There is a front & back seating outside. A juke box with a great selection of music. Not badly priced pints either. Nice atmosphere with one pool table and a dart board. He has various stuff going on there is a quiz on a Sunday hosted by Pants, who use to do the quiz at the Bull & Butcher and various other events. I haven't eaten there but the menu has a good selection. The pub is steadily improving all the time. Keep the good work up Kev.

I am a regular in the pub and find it a nice pub. IT has alot of garden space and its really nice for the hot days. Me and the girls have been going there to chill out and have some fun. The people who run the place are polite and always make that extra effort to please the costumers. The landlord is a cheeky little buger sometimes though. I understand that they have just taken over the place and it is slowly improving with time. The food is lovely and reasonable priced. The quiz on Sunday that is hosted by pants is great hes a top guy and has the cutest children. It is really busy past 10 and has a great atmosphere.

This has been my local for 3 yrs i have seen the place go up and down, it has Karaoke sometimes but not very busy just a few singers usually the usual ppl as there is not much else to do, it tends to get better at about 10.30 but that is prob cos everyone is hammered by then. The bar staff are amazingly friendly and cheery but you do get the odd dodgy one. Landlady makes an effort with "punters", good to watch any Arsenal football game, very busy, but only if you are a gunners fan. Ok in the summer the sun does not reach the beer garden for very long only about an hour so not ideal beergarden, would be 10/10 if it was at back of pub. Overall, clean, good pint, good bar staff, music is OK could be updated regularly with new music.
COme for a pint!
