Beautiful traditional country pub with a friendly landlord and lovely locals. We always feel welcome here and the food is consistently excellent, as are the draught selection of beers. The interior of the pub is charming, with no noisy music and just the sound of people enjoying themselves and there is an expansive beer garden as well. Definitely worth a visit....this is my idea of a near perfect pub 🍻

Last month visited this pub first time for more than 40 years.Apart from some opening out much the same as it was then.Delightful!Still sells Harvey's mild as it did back then,a great pint.
Nice friendly landlord who has served at other pubs in this area including the now closed Gate at Ifield Wood.

What a little gem! Just like a pub should be, a wide range of excellent Harveys ales, really good food (lunchtime only) and a very warm welcome from the Landlord. I will certainly be returning again and again.

Wonderful pub. Only Harvey's but full range. Lovely feel inside, at least 4 different 'outside' options and a special mention to the friendly 'regular' who pointed out that I'd missed Rowfant House off my pub challenge. Completion assured (although did have to cycle up Turner's Hill three times in one day!!). Thanks mate. A very strong 9/10

Oh, this is a place to go if you like your Harvey's all right !

Thanks to a mix up on travelplans and the fact that the OS map doesn't show this pub, we only had time for the one, so I picked a Bonfire Boy as it was the seasonal, but I could have easily warmed to any one of four others.

Lovely pub.

Excellent "local" pub, friendly staff and well kept range of Harvey's own beers. Menu looks interesting and fairly priced but only available at lunchtimes. That latter comment is not a criticism as the pub is not large enough to warrant an evening menu...better for it as it remains exactly what it should be - a clean welcoming pub with decent beer..simple I know, but they are dying breed.

First visit today, though I lived in the village as a kid in the days when children weren't allowed in. (Only ever went to The Crown as they had a separate dining room) Had Thatchers Gold to drink and a chunky great ham hock to eat, with proper vegetables. Drinks slightly pricier than I was expecting but I can cope with that.

Strolled round the back across the fields to see my old house...

Called for lunch and a nice proper Harveys pub.

I had the Sausage Ploughman's - a new one on me - and very good. Good portion and reasonable price

I think the coleslaw was home made.

Worth a visit.

Welcoming Harveys pub with a nicely kept selection of their ales on offer. Interior is snug and busy and can be chilly if you're stuck by the door, but otherwise comfortable and quaint. Food looks interesting so probably best to book at weekends or get there early. Overall it's a nice place to be and worth a visit if you're in the area.

First "proper" pub that we found on the 2010 London Brighton Bike Ride. The Dog and Duck up the road had closed (deservedly) and the nearer Hedgehog, a Marstons pub, was so dire we left without buying beer EVEN when we were so gagging for a drink. We are too busy to change a barrel the staff said, whilst the landlord persisted in counting his till takings and ignored punters. Such places should be closed down! But to the point, the Harveys pub here is well run, friendly, has a lovely garden and is value for money. We loved it.

I like the pub, but pricey beer. Clientele, surprisingly rough, boasting about drink-driving convictions, also some depressing macho dog types, one carrying a bag of dogshit and dumping it in the pub bin; lovely..

Great pub. Stopped in for a pint for the first time today. A warm welcome and a fine pint of Harvey's Olympia. A traditional, unspoilt place

Don't like the bogs, use the hedge. Great pub very many happy summer bashes there with a good old trad jazz band (or nearly a band) Been going there since the late 60s, got brainhurtz, but ain't dead. Great pub.

Great pub, fantastic beer (Harveys), good food. I'm never around in the evenings so can't comment on that but as a lunchtime drink it can't be beaten. Shame there aren't more like it

Now people complain about cleanliness in pub toilets. Try using the stinking toilets in any of the Horley pubs and you'll stop complaining. Keep up the good work, landlord - the pub remains a gem.

Fine pint of Harveys in a local's local. My only gripe is a strong small of toilet cleaner near the toilets. I have never seen a gents with so many little blocks of disinfectant!

If a martian landed in my garden tomorrow and asked me what a pub was, I'd take him here. My favourite pub - shame I don't get down to Turners Hill very often.

went there for lunch, very nice pub, full of character and atmosphere.
i had sausages and mash with onions, well worth the wait.
the only downside is that the menu is very limited, there was only coffee cake for pudding, and there was no decaf coffee.

if you don't mind that though this place is well worth a visit, locals are very friendly too.long may this continue!

One of Harvey's classics. Worth a major expedition, let alone a run out.

Just pray that the beancounters and rationalisers and refurbishers don't take control and it goes the same way as so many of the other family breweries.

Use it or lose it.

Went to this pub the other evening . What a gem , great range of Harveys beers all in good condition . Friendly welcome , two fires burning . Great atmosphere with various groups of locals putting the world to rights .If robust language is not your thing then early evening may not be the time for you to visit. The gardens look like the will be nice when the sun eventually comes out .
Only downsides , the carpets look like they had seen better days about 10 years ago and 200 pineapple chunks in the gents trough was a little overpowering. Overall a proper country pub and I will definately be going back.

Proper real pub of the old school, it's well known locally for having the best pint of Sussex around, well worth having an evening at this pub.

This really is yet another stronghold in Harvey's arsenal of honest, traditional, unspoilt local pubs which serve their wonderful range of beers to perfection. I have only managed to visit once so far a year ago but that and the comments made below by more recent visitors who found exactly the same experience as I did affirms that my opinion of it remains valid. A real classic conversationalists pub, set in a cosy environment which although has been shaped by locals is more than welcoming to passing trade. The landlord is a very jolly cove and he will appreciate you appreciating the quality of his ale.
This is a gem and should be treasured by all for whom this sort of pub matters.

called in on way through from birmingham at lunchtime. warm fire to sit beside, very friendly locals, nice landlord, excellent bar food & good ale. what more could a pair of cold damp travellers want?

Pub has now been taken over by a great couple who I believe are locals. Very friendly and inviting from the moment you walk in. Food through the week is of a very high standard and the harveys tastes as good as it always has. Fab country pub which has improved even more since the arrival of the new landlord and landlady!

It hasn't changed in the 30 years I've known it. You can sit on the bench outside with your pint in summer and look at the distant North Downs. The footpath to the side goes into a wood in a little valley with a steam six inches wide, which is the River Medway.
Vasili - 28 Jul 2004 16:41
Had a good Sunday roast and pint of Harveys. More of a locals pub just off the village centre to the big one on the crossroads. Farewell party at end of the month probably means the landlord is moving on so I hope it doesn't change too much
