Charming wisteria-covered country pub between Harefield and Rickmansworth, best enjoyed from the garden. Inside, we found the cramped bar area dominated by two TVs showing football. Beer selection was a bit of a disappointment, with only London Pride and Deuchars available.

Returned today for the first time since July 2008 and was pleasantly surprised as everything was very nice and relaxed. Excellent George Gales Seafarers Ale, and London Pride and Deuchars also on draught. Still a very nice pub, in a good location with a mixture of locals and visitors.

Was passing this pub with my family on the way back from a dogs rescue centre that we visited, pulled in on a whim for a spot of lunch, when we arrived we were asked if we had booked, seems to have a strong local following as well the staff couldnt have been more helpful they put us on a table that was booked for 2pm we were there at just past 12, the food wasnt cheap but was very good value for money the roasts were fantastic and the ale top notch would recommend to any one but would recommend booking a table if you intend to eat as it gets really busy, pub was also very dog friendly

Decent pub with reasonable beers. London Pride, Skinners and Deuchars on tap. Pub was quite full, although there seemed to be a concert on when we visited.

Nice pub. Had a few dodgy pints (esp cider) in there but overall the beer is kept well. Unexciting wine list. Good menu but not particularly good value for money. Great decor and location though.

Always been a favourite though don't frequent it as much as in previous years. Great location and very traditional. On a warm night the beer garden is a lovely spot to sit out and chat in. Quite full outside when visited but everyone was very relaxed. Haven't sampled the food but the restaurant part inside looked nice. Beer was OK - Pride tasted like Boddingtons.

Pleasant location and interior. Good beer. Our Sunday roasts were very good and good value. Service was a bit snippy but they were busy and we did mess them around a little.

A lovely little pub with great beer and fantastic food.
Dogs are allowed in the beer garden too (as long as they dont chase the pubs chickens!!)

Highly recommended.

Wonderful decor, utterly unique. All beers well-kept and service can't be faulted. A great pub. Ferociously gay but don't let that put you off.

This is primarily a pub to eat at and is located quite a way out from the centre of Rickmansworth. A good option if you want to eat out at lunchtime. There's a great conservatory if you can get a table there, and the garden is very nice and large.

I've been 2-3 times and the food has been good. However the menu had barely changed from one year to the next; as a vegetarian, options are always limited and if the menu stays the same it means there's less incentive to return anytime soon. But I did like the food, and by now the menu might have changed.

The range of beer isn't large in number but you can get Deuchers IPA and Hoegaarden, both very nice.

I have surveyed the chefs through the hatch and have two comments. 1 - they can cook. 2 - they should pull their trousers up. Great sausage and mash though!

Fantastic new pub in an area with a dirth of decent gastropubs. The steak was superb and the pate was to die for!My partner has been back for the smoked haddock with a mustard beurre blanc and poached egg on a bed of crushed new paotatoes and wilted spinach.Divine!we look forward to new menu devlopments. Keep it up!

I live in Harefield and am so delighted to have a real pub with real food at last, not a chain pub. I had to make this comment after reading Mrs Rimmers of Monday 11th, I can't believe Ribeye steak with cracked pepper & stilton sauce, Duck liver Pate & fig chutney & seared calves liver not to mention the rest of the menu! is not a good selection of food. The quality of the steak is the best you will ever eat.
Thank god for the Rose and Crown

Unfortunatley The Rose and Crown are advertising for a new Chef which may go some way in explaining the deterioration of both the selection of food and quality.
Disappointing and still charging for gourmet food!
Mrs Rimmer - 11 Oct 2004 12:08
The Rose & Crown has the best food (since new managment & refurb) of any pub I have been to within a 15 mile radius. Not only is it delicious, the presentation is exceptional!!! At last! a pub with a real chef!!!

If you are going just for a drink, it can be a little quiet after 8pm.
Nice staff, usual pints, small selection of bottled beers.

A quintessential english country pub, which has recently and mercifully been done up. Finally it has an interior and a menu to match its brilliant ecterior and countryside location. has a restauranr area which serves amazing food, my girlfriend had monkfish tail wrapped in bacon which was stunning and i had one of the best steak's I have ever eaten.
lovey food in a lovely atmosphere and setting
