please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Battesford Court is a former hotel, now a Wetherspoons on Witham's main shopping street. I'd arrived here after visiting the Wheatsheaf in Hatfield Peverel (not listed on the site). The Battesford Court is a typical 'spoons - packed, devoid of character, but with a good selection of ales and this one had 4 ciders. Ales were Sharps Doom Bar, Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best, Flack Manor Black Jack, Shepherd Neame Spitfire & Wibblers Gold. As with the previous review, I think there were 3 ales "coming soon". Ciders were Westons Old Rosie & Wyld Wood, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon & Thistly Cross Whisky Cask.

Just had a pint of Nethergate Suffork County - 4%abv. A very pleasant ruby coloured beer at a reasonable price (2.05). I drink here one or twice a week and have found this to be one of the better JDW establishments compared to the offerings in Chelmsford & Colchester. It's close to where I work and ideal for an after work swifty. My only real complaint is out of ten handpumps there are always at least three badged "Coming Soon" with Ruddles, Abbot & Doombar occupying three others. Stock rotation does keep the choice interesting though, but if you spot an exception one it's unlikely to last beyond a couple of days.

Standard wetherspoons, half decent beer garden and very spacious inside. Not bad.

Me and the missus come here a lot for breakfast on a weekend, we find it one of the most appealing Wetherspoon pubs we have ever been in. Its clean and contrary to the previous review (albeit a while back) the service we find is very good indeed.

Not bad, although food portions are getting smaller as the price goes up. Didn't mind bad food when you were paying peanuts but when it's costing the same as a decent pub/restaraunt and its still bad microwaved rubbish, I object! Also, same as every single Wetherspoons I have been in, the service is appalling!! Why do they only have 2 staff on in the middle of a lunch time rush?? One of those will be taking 10 mins at a time to make a cappucino leaving one person to serve everyone else.I have lost count of the times I have got up and walked out becuase I still haven't been served after 10 -15 minutes.

An excellent place for real ales and good value food. Busy most days at lunchtimes and popular Thursday to Saturday evenings.

Not bad, not bad at all. Nice pint of Pedigree and a very tasty burger.

Nicest weatherspoons I've been in...and I've been very thorough in my search ;) I am a smoker but I think this place is so nice becuase it has always been non smoking so it still attracts a sea of white haired old ladies and couples. The staff are young and friendly and the service is fast and efficient. Me and my firnd sometimes go and share a starter and have main and end up spending a whopping 5 each. It's lovely, try it.

devoid of any character, beer tasted past its sell by date, I suppose we should have known better, would benefit from some extra heating too...

Definitely a cut above most Wetherspoons, not at all the atmosphere of an airport lounge as commented by an earlier reviewer. Now a non-smoking venue. Usual JDW food so you know what to expect. Beer range vastly superior to that served in its pre-JDW life as the Batsford Hotel but agree with previous post often served too cold.

This is one of the better Wetherspoons pubs - it certainly knocks the Barking Dog into a cocked hat. The sirloin steak is good value at under 7 and as an extra for just 55p the onion rings are served in a bowl not the usual four or five as in some pubs. A good pint of Stella as well.

The Battesford is in the centre of Witham and is a typical 'Spoons pub - cheap beer (real ale but served way too cold), uninspired if pleasant microwaved food, and all the atmosphere of an airport lounge. You get a real mix of people in here - local totty at weekends as well. But basically it's still a Wetherspoons - good to get a few cheap pints in before going somewhere else with more going on.

A weatherspoons outlet - so cheap beer and grub. Clean, friendly and busy. Nice beer garden too.
