Visited with friends for the evening on 5 Sept after a gap of over a decade as we found the newly refurbished Jersey Lilly full up. Very pleasantly surprised as previously it had needed a lot of TLC which it has now received. Bar staff were friendly and happy to provide straight glasses or jugs plus dealt with the complicated wine orders (we were with our other halves) admirably.

We all ate, most of us having steak which was all served as requested (rare, medium etc) and tasted great. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this as place for a drink or to eat if you're nearby.

I like this pub very much. Others don't. You can't keep people happy all the time. It's a pub pub. Not the greatest in the world. Certainly not the worst.

Beer is great, atmosphere is great, open fire for winter, outside sunny space for summer.

Always service with a smile and a bit of banter, the food (especially the Sunday roast) is fantastic. Well kept ales and ciders, all rasonable priced for the area.

They've recently launched a new menu, the wife and I had the piri piri chciken last night, it was flawless.

This is easily the best pub in the local area and on a par with some of the best in Bristol. In my all time top 5!

used to go here in the 60s; Vic was mine host, and used to serve Taunton Rough out of a barrel. Cheese n onion rolls was about the extent of the food, BUT...a great old pub. Haven't been inside for 40 years.

Prominent pub located in a small square just off of Blackboy Hill. Its got a decent pub feel to the place with a large L-shaped bar and a smaller bar off to the left with a piano. Theres a small terrace area out at the front. It seems to be undergoing something of a spruce up at present, there was a definite fresh paint aroma about the place.

Years ago this place used to be rammed with students, but on a recent Saturday evening visit it was relatively quiet. Not empty, but no problem getting a seat either. There were a few people eating, but the pub is certainly not food dominated (even though there are cup cakes on the bar!). Staff were polite and efficient it makes a change to get an apology when the barmaids busy serving the food and so cant get to the bar to serve you.

Beers on this occasion were Bass, Courage Best, Butcombe and Gem. Ciders were Thatchers Gold and Addlestones, both of which were very good. Well worth a visit.

I avoided this pub for ages for the reasons given by curioushistory below but wandered in the other day and was very pleasantly surprised. Reasonably priced, well-kept beer, comfortable surroundings and a nice seating area at the front. Didn't eat but from what I could see, the food looked good and well-priced. Worth another visit.

Always found a friendly welcome, decent beer at realistic prices for the area. For smokers and other al fresco types there is a large outside seating area.

Largish comfy pub , tables outside .polite bar staff choice courage best ,bass, gem, butcombe ,perhaps a little unimaginative., but all seemed to be selling well , in a pub that was busy about 6 o'clock on a sat

Still very shabby and uncared for, including the cellar by the state of the beer every time I've-foolishly-been. Great location squandered. Still, if you're eighteen (at a push) and stick to WKD you'll be happy.

Needs to be cleaned and redecorated. Staff are good and venue should be nice but it is a shame that it is in a bit of a state.

great staff, great food and beer, nice place for a quiet lunch during the week and yet a lively kick off to the weekend from Thursday evening on. good mix of people and music. proper pub like pubs should be. lovely in the summer on the terrace and cosy in the winter inside. try it out I did and loved it.

Beer is expensive and not very well kept. Garden is gorgeous on a sunny day, but interior is pretty tired.
