please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Beer was alright to be fair. I didn't see any fruit flies. Quite busy on a saturday afternoon. Nothing remarkable as such but decent enough. Although I wouldn't be saying that if I saw fruit flies.

Allegedly a 360 year old coaching inn, but not shred of this heritage on the inside. Despite being half empty the bar staff made us move to sit by the open door leading to the smokers because we had our children with us. Tables and menus were sticky and could have done with a clean. Beer was ok, I had a pint of Harveys, and to be fair the pub grub was decent.

The fruit flies are in the George because the Oakhill was too rough for them....

I made a good review of this pub a couple of years ago but it's gone a bit downhill since then.

The beer is still generally ok as are the clientele and the bar staff are great (mostly), however the cleanliness of the pub has definitely faltered. Fruit flies are absolutely everywhere trying to sup your pint before you do and their dead bodies and turds are in evidence all over the walls of the pub. Not a nice environment to be suppin in.

The place needs a good deep clean and then be maintained that way. I've stopped suppin there til they do it.

Nice Local pub for a day time drink/food

Pub grub. but good quality pub grub, with lots of choice.
4 ales on tap. (2 bitter/2 ales) and lots of beers all good quality.

outside seating. and really friendly pub, old fashioned and nice

One of the few proper pubs in Beckenham. Decent but nothing exciting range of ales. Marston EPA 1.99 a pint! Food fairly standard but as the price reflects this, it's fine. Decent outside smoking area / garden but as other comments says it could be better. Staff farly friendly.

Went a couple of months ago to see that their excellent home-cooked food (Barnsley chop, etc.) had been replaced with a bog-standard menu. Still probably the best pub in Becks though.

Not too bad - dont like the garden and could do without the tvs and music - but nice enough. Gets quite busy.

Very impressed with this pub, cozy but enough space to move around. Good selection of beers on tap as well as ales. The garden is well laid out and there is a decent smoking area.
Even though the pub is part of a chain the food is good for what it is, and is very good value. The staff are friendly and the landlord is usually around keeping an eye on things.
Over all a smashing pub

Good value pub for Beckenham area.

Real ale quality and prices pretty good. Was in there on the day after St George's Day and was a bit puzzled why all the top ocal patriots were on the lager. Some people will never get it - I hope their hair grows back.

Staff seem happier and more responsive of late and service is good even when busy. Guv often around at peak times keeping an eye on things and I think he does a good job keeping it all on track.

Had FIVE real ales on when I was there Thursday night. I had Marstons EPA, and a great drink it was too.

Visited this pub for the second time last sat whilst visiting friend up in Beckenham and was impressed to be honest it was busy but not packed sport on the tv good natured atmospher mainly 30's upwards clientele which suited me and decent beer at reasonable prices the dcoe has improved and the service is good dont get kept waiting long considering it seems a steadily busy pub in the high street has an old fashioned feel to it which being a bit of a traditionalist I welcome.
Well recommeneded if in the area looks the best of the pubs in the area for sure.

Popped in on a friday night bored of the standard Beckenham rubbish. Good service, prompt and with a smile. Knowledge of the beer on offer was good and I was offered a taster. Settled on a sussex bitter which I know well and it was very well looked after. A little loud on a friday but with a more discerning clientel than most Beckenham boozers. Sat in the garden with a friend and was able to enjoy a conversation with my ale

Visited this pub on sat previous with a friend and stayed there for few hours so that was a good sign as some pubs visited i couldnt wait to get out of.
had a nice few pints of bombardier in this pub reasonable prices got served fairly quick considering it was quite busy.
the pub itself is quite well decked out and the atmosphere seems relaxed a little bit cramped between some of the tables which was a bit annoying.
overall though a decent pub decent pint i would come back again for sure.

The pub's had a bit of a refit lately, with a new carpet and lick of paint. Definitely looks better but at the same time it looks half finished and like not much effort or thought was put into it.

The beer's good though, and very cheap compared to a lot of pubs. At the moment there's 5 ales on including Harveys, Brains SA and Pedigree. Good stuff.

The crowd are ok, definitely no trouble in here. Has a great beer garden in summer too. Altogether a good pub and I'd recommend it.

Wow - clean and new Gent`s toilets after a 20 year wait....The brewery have spent 5000 on them after taking in 5m. How generous.
walklim - 12 Feb 2009 12:37
2.50 a Fosters, also an offer of 99p for a glass of wine. You don't see that very often these days.
CorBlimey - 20 Jan 2009 15:36
In the summer, this place is excellent. Nice beer garden, right in the middle of the High Street. In the winter, you have to sit inside and see that it's actually not all that pleasant, a bit ragged and in dire need of a refit. Also, considering that this is a historic pub, the interior could be a bit more... traditional, rather than its current bland feel.

Called in here last week, not very busy and I got served quite fast, as it was quiet I could have a good look about, the place is filthy! The seats look like they have been taken from an old Route master bus, the carpet sticks to your shoes, and the toilets should be condemned.
This pub could be so much better if a few quid was spent on it. If the owners are not careful it will really go down hill.

mr2wheels100 - 31 Aug 2008 17:22
The beer is decent (Greene King IPA comes to mind as being good) and they often have Harveys on. However, it is quite a cramped pub, and is particularly crowded on weekend nights. The 12am closing time might have something to do with that. Not the friendliest place in the world, but then that applies to too many pubs these days....
gomezcat - 3 May 2008 12:59
first time i went in here couldnt fault the place.went there about a month ago my wife and i were totally ignored and not even acknowledged they just looked straight through us (be with you in a minute)wouldve been nice.i find the staff ignorant and if thats the way they want to run a pub fine.you STAFFor should i say glorified barmaids need to find some manners.still theres no way we will be going back anyway.sod the lot of you ignorant lot in there.
baldyone - 27 Apr 2008 15:59
The George in Beckenham has the most appalling Gent`s toilets I have ever seen !
Talk about run down and filthy.....disgracefull int hbis day and age.
anonymous - 16 Oct 2007 14:40
Exterior authentic and characterful but the interior tired and dated, long overdue for redecoration and refurnishing. When weather permits the garden is pleasant and decent size. Drink selection not bad and the staff usually helpful and friendly. Potential to be so much better.

djmikethebike - 23 Jul 2007 21:27
Bromleyjon is correct, this pub is now the smoking centre of Beckenham. I popped in this evening and it was heaving full of pissed up people smoking. we waited atleast 5 mins to get served, and to top it all they now play loud music!
mr2wheels100 - 27 May 2007 23:45
FILTH!!!
john_john - 14 May 2007 17:25
I have used the George on and off for about 30 years and love its old-world style - unfortunately it seems to attract all the smokers in Beckenham and it's like trying to drink in a kippering shed. Look forward to revisiting after the over-long-awaited smoking ban comes is. (Why does the health of the Scots and Welsh have priority over that of the English?)
bromleyjon - 9 Apr 2007 08:17
A proper pub to enjoy a decent beer and a chat, unlike the cavernous chain bars on the rest of the high street.
misterbaz - 12 Jan 2007 16:20
Ye George Inn is a charming Olde Worlde wood panelled pub at least 300 years old. It has a popular beer garden drenched in green yet overlooking Beckenham's High Street. Four different cask ales available from six pumps: Pride, IPA, Youngs & Harvey's Bitter. Condition wasn't totally fresh, but the beers were certainly drinkable. An enjoyable pub with a great atmosphere inside and out.
SilkTork - 10 Sep 2006 20:22
The male lavatories in this pub are primitive and often dirty. An old toilet with a broken chain hanging down, always pee over the place, and I would doubt anyone has ever bleached the place. Rotten !
It is rather like visiting a third world country.
walklim - 16 Aug 2006 15:40
The only proper pub in Beckenham these days !! If you like traditional pubs and decent beer then its well worth a visit.

FattusBlokus - 6 Feb 2006 15:15
good old pub this, do enjoy it. quite a cosy feel in the winter, with the nice big chairs and fire. in summer the beer garden is ace so it has both markets covered. can get very smokey on a busy night, but the staff are excellent, always prompt and pleasant (apart from obviously having been told by the boss to routinely ask if you want nuts or crisps after you've got your drinks, I'd ask for em if I wanted them.
good mixed crowd of people. only let downs are the mens bogs which smell a bit, and the beer isn't the best I've ever had.
hazey - 20 Dec 2005 12:58
Excellent staff, terrific ales, comfy chairs, local cat that hogs the best seat by the fire. A more mature crowd tends to frequent but there's more than enough cack kiddie pubs in Beckenham.
Bovine_Juice - 3 Dec 2005 21:40
Great staff, clean bar. Older crowd than most pubs in the area ensuring a hassle-free quiet drink. Traditional decor is done badly, as mentioned below. Food is very good - especially the pensioner faves like fish and chips. A great place for a private chat with a friend as there's plenty of seating and you won't be disturbed.
juliatheakston - 31 Jul 2005 17:33
This is a nice friendly pub with a good beer selection and excellent bar staff.
The pub lay out is cramped and awkward, the space is blocked by badly placed low tables, so you often get jostled, if you are standing. It is a really lovely old building on the outside, but the interior is just a brewery idea of a non descript pub interior, Nan`s swirly carpets and chocolate box prints on the walls. If they got rid of the carpet, it would feel more like a real old pub.
It was recently re-furbished but looks exactly the same as it did before.
walklim - 8 Apr 2005 09:36
A really welcoming and friendly traditional pub. Excellent staff and really good food. I know the area well and can recommend this Pub to all locals who want a good local.
stewart - 5 Apr 2005 11:38
this has really got better since new owners took over the beer is a hundred times better and good friendly service recomended
dead_goon - 21 Nov 2004 20:01
Just moved to the area and this was one of the first pubs I went to. The bar staff are friendly and the beer isn't too expensive. Just wish it was nearer to my flat!
