user reviews of the Harrier, Hatfield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Good set of regulars. Beer is expensive with two stellas not getting you much change from a tenner. Landlady is v friendly.

If you are unemployed, a hooker, druggie, drunkard or criminal you'd feel at home here.

Unlike many large estate feel pubs with a couple of pool tables, a dartboard and plenty of plasma screens for the showing of Sky Sports this place doesnt come with the thick barman, rude manager and incredulous stories of the great night that you missed earlier in the week because the venue is intrinsically crap. Thankfully the barmaid was very friendly and the governor was the most hospitable that I have found in Hatfield.

There is a standard draught selection, of which I had a nice pint of Guinness, and although one hand pump is unused there are a couple dispensing AK, but Im not a fan at the best of times.

Id drink here if I lived locally and if I were a student at the uni Id probably work here.

Fantastic pub with good atmosphere. Always new faces even when the students are away. Great entertainment and agree about the karaoke. Good all round pub. Ignore these old gits who complain about it! Like someone said - go somewhere else if you don't like it! Will definitely visit again!

to let anyone know who uses this pub and this site Mcmullens are planning on selling off the hall and the pubs kitchens for yet another fast food takeaway. do Mcmullens really think its appropiate to do this and have loads of kids hanging around outside !!!! please support the local people and the harrier in stopping Mcmullens from doing this. They done this to The Red Lion in Hatfield and have closed down The Chieftan in Welwyn Garden City.DONT LET McMULLENS DO THIS TO YET ANOTHER COMMUNITY PUB !!!!!

It's so good to see so many positive comments about 'my pub'. Yeah, the staff are loyal to the regulars, why not? They keep the coffers full!! The karaoke nights are excellent and like some of the contributors say, it's good to see the staff joining in. Yes, we have had some beligerent staff but, for the most part, the permanent staff are a fantastic crowd. Just like the t.v. if you don't like what you see, switch off. If you don't like the Harrier, f... off, we don't need you!

Fun, trendy pub, suited to all ages. There are plenty of students but everyone seems to get on really well! I agree that the bar staff are extremely friendly. Also totally agree about the karaoke - one of the best karaokes I've been to. Shame it's not every week but well worth a visit!! 5 star!!!

this pub is by far one of the best iv been to in hatfield... i have recently started visiting the pub as i found out there was karaoke on and my gosh it is the best nights... its a monday night and only comes every other week so we like to get there early so we can get our songs in or in other words stitch eachother up! staff are a great laugh and even sing themselves but i think it needs a bit more entertainment, massive pub and great sound and the has a number of tvs with all different channels on... when karaokes on they have big screen for everyone else and a smaller screen for us to sing off of!

more of a student pub but all well behaved!

overall i much like the pub and would love to see more people up there!!

one of the best pubs i've been to in hatfield, manager & staff are quite friendly but most staff seem to be rushed off their feet as a busy pub normally makes them, plenty of tv screens with sky and music and also an excellent karaoke which only seems to be venued every other week, shame as it would do better to keep the crowds there every monday instead of having to find alternative karaoke, still maybe they can change that! very big pub with 3 pool tables and loads of friendly people and students but again not enough karaoke!!

This pub had 6 widescreen TVs showing Sky Sports, but with 1/3 of it missing off the sides of the screens, so I decided to conduct my usual Customer Concern test on this pub. I asked one of the ladies behind the bar to see the manager. She was very helpful and friendly and did as I'd asked. Out came another lady, who claimed that she WASN'T the manager, but asked how she could help, anyway. I told her how the pictures on the TVs were short and fat, but before I could explain that it was due to their Sky Digibox being incorrectly set up, she stopped me and said she wasn't willing to do anything for the benefit of a single "non-regular". Additionally, she just told me to sit down and finish off my drink - all without a smile. But the irony was that the request of this "non-regular" would have benefited all of the punters, including the poor subscriber-payer of the Sky Sports.. which is probably the manager who I'd failed to speak to.

Unfortunately for the residents of South Hatfield, the results rating of the test wasn't very high with this kind of attitude. And as far as I'm aware, there's still plenty of action missing from the TV screens. A complete shame about the obvious discrimination of regulars and non-regulars, too.

On a brighter note, the bar-lady who I'd initially spoken to quickly rushed out and apologised to me for the other lady's behaviour.

a nice looking pub once you get inside, a small selection of largers, and even smaller selection (ie 1) of real ales and the prices are quite high, the pub it's self was clean the bar staff where as polite an attentive as could be expected with "regulars" shouting demands at them.

Seamed to be a genuenly student friendly pub, and possably one of the nicest pubs i've been to in south hatfield
