user reviews of the Lamb and Lion, Bath

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Bath is full of quite wealthy middle class types, but the customers in here happily don't fit that demographic. It is a big pub, and usually quite busy (and getting served can sometimes take a while), with a very mixed range of ages. It is not really a real ale drinkers pub. Compared to some of the pretentious places in Bath, I rather like it.

A good sized pub just off the main shopping street, but lacking much in the way of any individual character or personality. It looks to have been recently refurbished and was tidy enough, but thats about all I can really say in its favour.

There are several different rooms all full of tables and chairs, and food is clearly a major draw here. We didnt try it ourselves so I cant comment on it, but it certainly seemed popular with barely a free table in the pub. Then again, perhaps thats inevitable given its proximity to the shops, the time of year and the time of day (early evening) that we visited. A sign advertised curry and steak nights, and a board listed a selection of pies that were available. These are apparently available as part of a pie and pint deal for 5.50.

Decor is unremarkable with flock wallpaper and carpet throughout, except for a tiled area around the bar and numerous black and white photos on the walls. There were also a couple of plasma screens on the wall and a notice advertised a regular quiz night. A sign on the bar proclaimed real ales sold here but since they only had one on, that seemed somewhat misleading. Clearly somebody should have removed it.

The solitary beer offering was Doom Bar. There were pumps for EPA and London Pride, but these had both apparently run out. Not a good sign at 6:00pm on a Friday evening. Who on earth does their stock control? Ciders faired no better with just Strongbow available, unfortunately.

There are many great pubs in Bath, but I'm afraid this is one that did not impress. I had a pint of marston's Pegigree and it was really smelly rotten. Pretty seedy mid-afternoon. Staff were friendy but it was a case of "well, it looks ok".

Have enjoyed many a pint and some food in here with my friends at various times and have never seen any sign of trouble. I wouldn't take them in there if it was like that!
Does get very busy sometimes, but the beer is good (2 or 3 Reals) and the food quick and well prepared.

I don't know why anyone goes here.

Decent place to go for lunch, food isnt bad, beer is ok, and everything is cheap.

I stay clear in the evenings as it gets rougher.

Staff are friendly to locals/regulars.

Do on occasion get some homeless-looking/smelling folk in there, and the odd rush of old people, but I keep going back!

In the evening it's over 21's only. A drunk man in his early 30's threatened to phone the police because a barman asked the blokes young (I'd say 15 or 16 years old) girlfriend to leave!

I feel really threatened when I go in here - it wouldn't take much to get in a fight. Cheap beer but is it really worth it.

Cheap and full of chavs. Don't look anyone in the eye!

wow what a differnce the sun makes. I was sitting in the garden after work and thought this is so much different from the chav haven it was last summer so much more social.

Just had a lick of paint and been done out quiet nice.
Pool tables GONE and seems to do a lot of food now. also seen Timothy Taylor on which is a rare treat for Bath. Staff also now looking smart (and atractive) good luck to all

Really love the beer garden at the back. Has sports on will put on any sport I ask for (great). Apparently they are going to be doing real ales soon and clean the place up so it will be o.k to take the missus here on a Sunday. Keep up the good work

Compared to 'spoons, its not as cheap nor as quality but you will get served in under 20 minutes! The only real 'chav' pub in Bath, can make an interesting change from all the much better locations very nearby!

If you are under 16, it's the place to be. Last time one of us was there, there were some Vicky Pollards fighting in the corner. Charming.

If you like the idea of paying for heartburn then you really must eat here, as for the beer most varieties of gassy pish are available. Like a Weatherspoon's but with a less intellectual clientelle!

Cheap and cheerful. Never going to win any design awards but it is aware of its limitations and does the basics well. 1.45 a pint of Carlsberg - miraculously cheap for Bath. 1.65 gets you Carling - moving up in the world.

Loads of screens and friendly bar staff - very good service all the time. Recent refurb means it is not as tatty as it used to be. Highly recommended.
