If you want a flat pint in a knackered glass this "pub" is for you

Eight beers displayed today, five guests plus the three regular ales.
I chose a pint each of the two most hoppy guest beers, only to be told by the barman, "Their off".
'Then why have you still got the pump clips showing?' I asked. Reluctantly he removed only one of them.

I've got nothing against beers running out, but annoyed when bar staff are too lazy to turn the pump clips around.
How many customers ask him for those beers and be told their off?

So I settled for Purity's Saddle Black (good) and Flack Manor's Flack Catcher (reasonable).

Well sited Wetherspoons immediately opposite the pier, can get extremely busy in Summer. Always at least one group of pissed locals inside talking about football (doesn't every Wetherspoons have this?!) Standard Wetherspoons fayre, good value and good sized portions. At least 6-8 real ales on and in good condition too. The lighting could be described as 'subdued', others may say 'dinghy'. Slightly tatty interior, good terrace outside facing sea. This pub doesn't have much competition on Clacton front so by default it is recommended! Could be a lot better, could be a lot worse!

Average 'spoons set in an impressive building on the front opposite the pier... Beers on offer were Exmoor Gold, Bishops Finger, Lancaster Brewery Rum and raisin, Marstons Cinder’s Doppelganger and a pale ale, Minagof Beer, from Ishii Brewing Co., Tamuning, Guam. Interior a bit tatty, and could do with a lick of paint...

One of the brighter 'spoons because of a large window looking out to sea. Not too busy for Saturday lunchtime, although getting served was a bit slow. The rule seemed to be 'push in, or get pushed out'.
Apart from the usual regular beers three guests were on.
Sunchaser, Hullabaloo and the superb Wentworth WPA - full of hops and bitterness (I could still taste it two hours later.
The food seemed better than 'spoons usual standard. Chicken Tikka, Chicken skewers, Scampi and my Steak and kidney pudding, served on a very hot plate, had no complaints. Well done chef.
Surprisingly good pub for sea-front location.

Not the best Wetherspoons we have been to. More packed than most and certainly less staff than most. Impossible to find a seat or table at the weekend.Located on seafront opposite the pier.

A large Wetherspoons pub opposite the pier. It has large L-shaped lounge which is laid out primarily for serving food to tourists who fill the place at lunchtime. Food service can be slow and they are bad at clearing the debris afterwards. It is quieter in the evening when the daytrippers have gone home. It has a reasonable choice of real ales including a very nice pint of Old Hooky when I was in there for their curry night which is still brilliant value for money. It is not however a pub I would choose for a quiet relaxing drink.

Popped in here back in Jan during the snow, was quite impressed to find that the bar manager had "skied in" to work!! The ale supped was v good and the breakfasts the following morning were well done, 8/10

The service was ok, nothing amazing, depending on who served you.
The food wasn't that good either, but it did come out quickly compared to other places I have been.
I'm definately not going back and wouldn't recommend you go!

Slow service, dirty tables, cold, lack of staff, shall i go on? Waited 10 mins to get served and this was a cold/wet evening with only a few people in the bar. 0 out of 10 is too high!

This pub is not that great, pretty lively pub when it wants to be, its a pub trying to be something its not, Would recommend for a better JD Wetherspoons, Visit one in london, Atmosphere and service is a lot better. Staff are friendly but not really willing to keep on top of work load.

To be read in continuation of previous entry :-

Next day, driven by wind, rain & thirst we visited again. There is a shortage of decent pubs in the centre of Clacton. This time we managed to be served but it was s-l-o-w and surly.

It was not an edifying experience. The place looks as if it needs a good spring clean. It is a pity because it occupies a good position and has potential.

If only it could be like Hamilton Hall at Liverpool Street.

This is the poorest "spoons" I have ever visited and that's saying something! I visited in late September at lunchtime when one young girl, who looked as if she should be attending school, was trying to cope with a bar full of impatient customers.

After ten minutes, my group became "fed up" so we left, still thirsty. We were not impressed/amused.

Worst Wetherspoons I've ever visited, filthy, bad service and 'interesting' locals. Beer selection is limited and quality is poor

Very old fashioned Spoons, but does the job, especially when you need OK food quickly. Real ale range limited but was OK.
